I suppose you really have to see it to believe it. :) You probably saw hell in the Eastern bloc, I dont know

Equality over Equity!

Greed is evil, it's even a deadly sin. Thats not a good one ;)

Read some Marx, that should snap you out of the trance you are in.

ravengod, don't expect miracles. Do me a favour, go to http://www.politicalcompass.org and post your score in this thread, then I know where I'm starting from.

Communism is clouded by a lot of misconceptions about it, people see stalinism and thing communism, but they are really very different. Most people here are libertarian, that is they believe that the state should serve the people, not the other way round, because the state consists of the people and is nothing without the people (hope I haven't lost you). Essentially, do you believe in equality? Not the kind of equality that capitalists try to convince us we have, but real equality where there is no gap between the rich and the poor, no gap between first world and thrid world, no gap between any part of society, just one world community working in harmony for progress.

Obviously this is a dream that is phenomenally hard to achieve but I believe that it is possible one day, many years from now. All we can hope to do is to prevent the rich becoming too rich and the poor from being too oppresed, this is our duty to society.

So go to the political compass and get back to me so I know what I'm dealing with

I don't think we should make you belive in anything you should find out what you want to believe in for yourself.Only what you think should matter.

"Make you believe?" What GOOD is a believer?

If, ravengod, you actually read some books, study some history, etc., it's possible that you will, as a result of thinking, come to agree with a Marxist view of social reality and even master some tools with which to analyze new events in a rational way.

"Believers" should find a church to join; they are a hindrance to making revolution.

If you want to find something new you must first have a reason for change, it was the effects of globalisation that got me interested in exploitation, I kind of drifted towards the history of Marx. Look into envionmental concerns, child labour and sweatshops. Then look at the capatilists exploiting not only their workers, but their consumers. Read far, wide and deep. Follow up all that strikes you, everyone forms their own beleifs, the main theories are guidance.

"There's a lot of romanticism in communism which is bulshit...but if you still beleive it after all these years then it must mean something." Nicky Wire

ravengod, I'm really pleased that you want to "believe" but as it has been said, the left is not about blind faith, it is about intelligent thinking.

You can think about this humanist quote "If you tremble with indignation at every injustice then you are a comrade of mine." (Che Guevara)
If you are not a sensitive person, then you can relax, and go back to you carefree, careless life.
We, who support socialism, basically have a huge feeling of love for others and ourselves as well, and only wish everyone could have the same chances, no favoritism, no class differences, no starvation, no oppression, etc. We actively fight for this principles.
To me this makes a whole difference.

socialism is not about blind faith...

its about popular ruling, planed economy, education, eguality and justice...

a system based on love equality and freedom is a socialist system...
ifyou want to be a socialist, you have firstlyto be democratic, then reconize the dictaturship of the proletariat, and agreewitht he popular control of all the resources, plus obey only the the popular state, and never to a elitist, pseudo-socialist state....

power is only good when its colective...

So, you whant to know what is socialism?
Well, if you read a lot you might learn what it is, but just in theory. As someone said...
"el socialismo es una doctrina y un movimiento revolucionario"
To be a socialist is to be a revolutionary.
You whant things to change, because they are not working right.
It`s to scream for your rights, to fight for the people, to express what you think. To fight for equality!

Que vivan los trabajadores! Que viva el pueblo! Que viva el socialismo!

* you can read about Salvador Allende (the socialist chilean president that died 11/09/1973), whow he rejected imperialism, how he was killed in hands of the army.
(Many say that the US was involved in all this).
