My friend lives in Ohio and attends this school. This is how I learned about it, and this is what he says (he explains it better than I could):
20:53 <SocialistGenius> heya
20:53 <SocialistGenius> can't believe that shit about your school
21:10 <Friend> ep
21:10 <Friend> yep*
21:10 <Friend> they havent said we're not going to graduate
21:10 <Friend> but basically
21:11 <Friend> they closed down school last week until "after monday" because the students and teachers protested outside of the OCCS headquarters (OCCS = our schools sponsers)
21:11 <Friend> we were portesting because our teachers were told by Allison Perz - head of OCCS - that they will only be getting 75% of the money that they've done 100% of the work for
21:12 <Friend> and that they may not recieve summer comp
21:12 <Friend> which is what all teachers get cuz they're not working
21:12 <Friend> Allison Perz also told them to their faces (the teachers) that all of their health insurance was covered and the plan was good
21:12 <Friend> that happened on April 3rd
21:13 <Friend> now
21:13 <Friend> the teachers later found out that their insruacne was actually cancelled on the 28th of Feb
21:13 <Friend> the teachers protested last Thursday ( not this one, week before this one)
21:14 <Friend> and on wednesday, two teachers were fired for not having "teaching licenses"
21:14 <Friend> Mr Loch, one of whom was fired, was in the process of recertifying his
21:15 <Friend> the other one -- mr welter -- was only certified to teach 7-9th, but subbed in for one 11th grade class because the OCCS would bring in any subs to cover that class, nor would they pay any teachers who sub in for that work
21:15 <Friend> so thursday (this one that just passed) the teacher protested again
21:15 <Friend> and the students protested with them
21:16 <Friend> and they decided that school will be closed on Friday, mondy and into next week some time
21:16 <Friend> and when addressing the principle of our school (Mrs Crump)
21:16 <Friend> she said "I cant promise you that you'll graduate"
21:17 <Friend> and they have been talking about shutting the school down right before we let students out
21:17 <Friend> a few days before the last month
21:17 <Friend> which would be June
21:17 <Friend> so May holding those last days
21:17 <Friend> because they wouldnt have to pay insurance during the summer break or the teachers
21:17 <Friend> and i just have serious doubts
21:17 <Friend> i seriously dont think they'll reopen
21:18 <Friend> but its fine with me
21:18 <Friend> cuz all of the seniors are going to file a class action suit against them
21:18 <Friend> according to state laws, school ones and Ohio reserved codes
21:18 <Friend> they violated over 22 codes of conduct towards staff and STUDENTS
21:18 <Friend> Also
21:19 <Friend> so you can get a better idea of what kind of person Allison Perz is (the owner and founder of OCCS)
21:19 <Friend> her and Sally Perz were two of the biggest money scandlers in the Tom Noe case
21:19 <Friend> they helped him donate his campaign money illegally
21:19 <Friend> Sally perz was convicted and just got a simple fine
21:20 <Friend> the charges against Allison were dropped
21:20 <Friend> Tom Noe is currently in Atlanta Geogia serving 10 years in prisno for illegal campaign funds for george bush in the 2004 election
21:21 <Friend> But its a proven fact that Allison Perz DID help fund over 2 million dollars to Tom Noe and George Bush
21:21 <Friend> She pretty much snitched Noe and her own Mother out to be let off scott free
21:21 <Friend> and her mothers lawyer got her off with just a fine
21:21 <Friend> So breaking the laws for a few extra bucks isnt something they've never done
21:22 <Friend> there's a lot of things they CAN'T do
21:22 <Friend> but they do it anyway
21:22 <Friend> but the students and teachers are working together
21:22 <Friend> the teachers have been getting fucked over ever since Allison Perz had the Diciannis removed from the school
21:22 <Friend> Bill Dicianni
21:22 <Friend> the mafia guy
21:23 <Friend> this happened back in Jan.
21:23 <Friend> But the teachers stuck around to at least get the seniors graduated
21:23 <Friend> and a lot of those teachers are more like friends to me
21:24 <Friend> http://www.nbc24.com/Global/story.asp?S=6533891
Correction--OCCS is the Ohio Council of Community schools (not technically a corporate or "capitalist" organization. I apologize about this misunderstanding.) Apparently there is a huge mistrust of and concern of corruption regarding Allison Perz, the director of OCCS.
My understanding was (living in Arizona), that these charter schools were ran with corporate sponsorship. I am still attempting to determine if this is true in the case of the reported school.
UPDATE: I contacted my friends teacher and informed him about IWW (Industrial Workers of the World, or iww.org), which is headquartered in Ohio and which I thought might be of utility to them. My friend contacted IWW.
