I think it was sometime last year I was in Reading talking to UrbanSpirit and his primo friend when he suggested a really good idea…

Why not set up an estate agency for squatters?

This could be a purely online agency to make people aware of places that are currently available to squat in, with a pic, full postal address & details about the area and how easy it is to get in and secure. We could also rate each dwellings current condition.

The advisory service for squatters (ASS) in London has a notice board with numbers and addresses of squats but some have been taken or demolished ages ago, it’s not kept up-to-date.

The squatters estate agency (SEA) should initially be a London based but there is no reason that it can’t also include sections for empty dwellings around the UK or even worldwide.

A good starting point would be to pop into ASS and filter through the notice board and see what is still appropriate and what is old rubbish. Take the info and put it up on the SEA website (once we set one up) then Check out the locations and take a pic of each one.

If people are aware of any places in their area they can submit them to SEA with all the appropriate details.

What are people’s thoughts?

Yes anyone can.

Free domains at dot.tk

Free websites search the net or just use bravenet (though there are better free ones out there).

wouldn't we be sort of exposing our locations to pigs, fash and other scum?
otherwise it's a great idea...

Shame it only lasted 10 days :(

An online version would surely last alot longer.

Not really, in my personal experiance most squatters are not political let alone Anarchists.

Also the number of dwellings we are talking about would be unmanageble by the pigs, on some occassions even one dwelling can be too much for them if it has enough people living there.

They have one of those down here (Australia) called unReal estate. Doesn't getu pdated very often, though.
I dont know how good an idea it is though. Just the risk of the cops finding it and busting a whole heap of squats (Which has been happening alot). I dont know if its worth the risk?

Bit different for the UK I guess though as its illegal for the pigs to "bust a whole heap of squats".

I don't think a list of houses is such a spectacular idea. It would require people to be constantly busy checking out houses and that's tiresome.
What is a good initiative is something like a squatters advisory center, where people who want to go squatting can come for information and perhaps even practical aid. In Holland you have KraakSpreekUren for that (more info, see www.kraak-forum.nl)
In Belgium, squatters are setting up something like that too.

Yeah, you guys have far more rights when it comes to squatting. They're pretty shit here, as you all probably gathered.

Move to London, everyone should move to London, it's the dogs.

The website could also have information on the squatting laws for different countries, their rights and basically what they can and cant get away with, also best contact numbers if they get in a spot of bother.

and a full description of what to do when you want to squat (but don't put in techniques of how to break open a door)

Due to someone else being interested in this idea we will be setting up an online SEA.

SEA (http://www.squattersestateagency.tk/)

Anyone else interested in helping with this please PM me.

Hello,

www.squattersestateagency.tk needs your ideas for what we can put of the main home page, needs to be something that relates to squatting in general terms and not specific to a countries laws/situations.

Also if anyone knows of any abandoned properties please e-mail us it's full address and a picture of it (there is one on the London, UK page that you can use as an example).

Thanks!
