I've been stenciling shirts for awhile now
And I can't seem to get red paint to show up really red on black fabrics.

Anybody know how i can?

Eh, that doesn't show very well either.
Believe me, it doesn't work unless you use that factory material used by the companies that make them. Use a dark gray shirt, or something.

just do it layer by layer, like spray it on, let it dry, spray it on, let it dry, over and over ubtil its dark enough

Unfortunately, a simple spray paint isn't going to work on t-shirt material for red paint. Even if you do as one poster suggested and use a base layer of white (which will work), you'll still have to use a few layers of red to make it not pink, and then all the paint will crackle easily.

You're going to have to use another medium. It will be more time consuming, but get some of that red stuff that used to be called "puffy paint", that is made specifically for painting on t-shirts. You'll have to paint it on. I recommend using foam brushes. They are cheap and don't show brush strokes as badly.

Since puffy paint is thicker and you'll have to be brushing it on, a standard stencil that just lays on top of the shirt won't provide the clean, crisp lines of the design. My advice... Trace the stencil onto contact paper and cut it out. Peel the contact paper off and stick it to your shirt. Then apply your paint. Be careful. Even contact paper will start to roll away from the shirt if pushed against.

Good luck!

buy fabric paint or fabric pens maybe? Or try puting the black paint on red fabric.

or sew the red fabric onto black fabric or black fabric onto red

or just leave it black. That stands for ANARCHISM too.

As mentioned above a base layer of white first then a few layers of red did it for me on dark green

I recently did a red stencil on a really black t-shirt and it came out quite well. I used ordinary grafiti, so... no idea if it doesn't work.

i always use fabric paints. it's AU$7 for 45mL but it lasts ages. on dark shirts i use 3 or 4 layers. you have to do it thick, and let it completely dry. or use a heater or hair dryer. and you get heaps better at it over time. here... (http://www.theartshop.com.au/category499_1.htm) this is AU and i didn't really read it. but it's the stuff i buy from my local craft store.

I use fabric crayons, they work well enough and they are permanent.

take a red t shirt, make a stencil of the logo or text you want on it and cover the rest of the shirt in black paint and hey presto! You have a red on black t-shirt.

if you get a squeegee and a screen for screen printing, you can use the "puffy paint" with your stencil
