The Pope also offered a view of the Church's history in Latin America that may prove to be controversial.
He said indigenous peoples had welcomed the arrival of European priests as they had been "silently longing" for the Christian faith. Embracing it had purified them, he said.
Many Indian rights groups believe the conquest brought them enslavement and genocide.
I know I shouldn't be surprised, but I found this to be absolutely sickening. I can't believe this man holds sway over 1.1 billion peoples' beliefs.

No man should have that much power (or woman). It is sickening that they hide behind a charade of religion (even though i hate that to the core). some people mistake religion as a means to peace love and sincerity (even though its not) and this old man and numerous other "religious men/women" fcuk around with people.
I live to see the church overthrown

He also warned against Marxism whilst in Latin America didnt he? He made a clear reference to Hugo Chavez if I remember correctly, and said Marxism was dangerous and becoming too prominant in Latin America.
EDIT:
Pope warns Latin America against Marx
Rory Carroll, Latin America correspondent

The Guardian
Pope Benedict XVI attacked Marxism and unfettered capitalism as twin scourges of Latin America at the end of a trip to Brazil, a visit which has underlined but failed to reverse the Catholic church's waning influence in the region.
The pontiff gave a blunt warning to priests to steer clear of leftwing politics, singling out communism as a baleful force. "The Marxist system, where it found its way into government, not only left a sad heritage of economic and ecological destruction, but also a painful destruction of the human spirit," he said on Sunday before his return to Rome.
That's the article.

Of course the guy doesn't want Marxism. Marxism means fewer followers, and fewer followers mean less cash. Right now the church is in a panic, because people are dropping their religion, or simply going to the Evangelicals or converting to Islam (in southern Mexico).
I'm estatic that something so blatantly sinister like the church is losing influence fast.

Something like 30% of the expected audience showed up in Brazil---Hardly a successful business trip.
Catholicism is dying in South America.
What does that mean for us? I'm not entirely sure if there's gonna be a boom of radical leftism in the short term. But secularization is definitely good for us in the long term.
