Hi comrades,
I've just found out that Bobby Fischer, who is regarded has one of the greatest chess players ever, has an intense hatred of jews, admires Hitler and has a strong dislike for the American government. Did anyone else know this ? I'm very shocked by this. I know that he was exiled from the USA and went to jail. Iceland offered him a visa. He now lives in Japan. I watched this youtude clip of him :

Nazis hate America because they hate modernism. Even the original nazis had a severe dislike for the USA.
The anti-americanism of the left is more that they dislike American politics and American conservatism, while the nazis view the USA as a degenerated fortress of popular culture, women's liberation, vulgarism and liberalism, all things which nazis hate.

Here is an example of how nazis looked at the USA.

Fischer demanded that the organizers bill the match as "The World Chess Championship", although Garry Kasparov was the recognized FIDE World Champion. The purse for this match was reported to be $US 5,000,000 with two-thirds to go to the winner. The U.S. Department of the Treasury had warned Fischer beforehand that his participation was illegal.[21] In front of the international press, Fischer was filmed spitting on the U.S. order forbidding him to play. Following the match, the department obtained an arrest warrant for him although some dispute the legality of the Department's claim and question why others who broke the embargo have not been prosecuted.[22] Fischer won the match, 10 wins to 5, with 15 draws. Many grandmasters observing the match said that Fischer was past his prime. In the book Mortal Games, Garry Kasparov is quoted: "He is playing OK. Around 2600 or 2650. It wouldn't be close between us." He has not played any competitive games since.

I think that's why he hates the US. He's been in exile ever since, and if he returns, he'd be arrested. He also thinks they want to put him away for ten years. As for his anti-Semitism, I don't know; obsession over Chess has the unusual ability to really corrupt rationality, rendering one a paranoid, delusional fool. It's quite a pattern throughout Chess history. Maybe that's it.

I wouldn't say that Fischer is a "nazi". He is not ideologically coherent enough to be a full-fledged fascist.
I think that while he himself has claimed that his hatred to Jews is based on personal experiences, the main reason for his anti-Semitism and anti-communism is his quite serious mental disturbance from which he has been suffering for many years.

No, " the unusual ability to really corrupt rationality" is not "quite a pattern throughout Chess history" at all. On the contrary I think that be closer examination you will find that most great chessplayers were more than adequatly rational people.

Not sure why Fischer turned to anti-Semitism but it's not exactly new; he's been making anti-Semetic remarks for quite a while now though I've yet to see him identify himself with Nazism.
Isnt he like, extremely mentally unstable?
He's still a chess genius so he doesn't fit the profile of someone who's extremely mentally "insane" but his personal life does point to some sort of problem.

Mental problems in no way impede your ability to play, or indeed master, games such as chess.

In fact in some cases mental diseases help the person become good at something, like piccasso

Yeah. There are cases of people with Autism and similiar conditions that impede their social skills, but they're fucking geniuses.
Let's not confuse Antisemitism with mental instability. He may be unstable, but those are two different cases, both of which can be completely independent of each other. It just so happens that they coincide. It's a real insult to people with mental disorders when you lump them all together like that.

I'm not saying that at all. I'm just suggesting that since in Chess a big part of the game is constantly looking over your shoulder, meticulously checking your opponent's advances, and constantly looking for a way in which your opponent may surprise you, then for the one who spends 10 hours a day on Chess throughout a normal human lifetime, it may either exacerbate or engender a sense of paranoid irrationality. Perhaps I was being hyperbolic when I said it was quite a pattern throughout Chess history. But it has been catalytic to the usurpation of rationality to paranoia in its most fanatical devotees. Basically, schizophrenia.

That's not at all what I was suggesting. I'm not even neurotypical, myself. I would never suggest that Anti-Semitism arising from mental instability is anything but anomalous yet occasionally explanatory.

I'm really into chess as well. I searched through videos of Bobby Fischer on youtube and came across his anti jewish speech..............which is the link i gave. The more i watch that youtube clip, the more i realise he's just really pissed off at the American government for victimising him and forcing him into exile. Certainly, i agreed with Fischers comments on the youtube clip about president bush however............it's very bad taste of him to blame the jews who are an easy target and sadly, will always be an easy target.
I admire Fischer as a chess master but not as a person. He was always a paranoid person. In the 1972 world championship title match against Boris Spassky, he had it in his mind that the soviets wanted to blow up his plane.

It really depends on the type of mental illnesses. Some obviously have an effect on people's lives, hobbies, and abilities, etc. while others have more of an impact on their social demeanor. If Fischer is indeed suffering from any of these then it must be one of the more mild forms which probably developed some time after his professional playing career ended.

I apologize if I misrepresented you, but frankly I am still unable to see that I twisted your words in any way.

I can't see why chess is so different from any other competitive game, and I don't recognize that description of the game you present above at all.

I think that you were indeed hyperbolic. As far as I can see, during the last 200 years only a tiny minority of chessmasters can be said to have been suffering from serious mental disturbance. I don't think that schizophrenia is overrepresented among them.
As somebody who has been an active chessplayer for about 30 years, it is always regrettable to learn that such notions seem to be quite a widespread notion. Heck, I remember my wife's reaction when learning that I regulary participated in chess tournaments...
