A friend of mine and I began noticing all of these repulsive posters around the school reminding eighteen year old males to register with the selective service because "it's the law."

Well in response to that, we have been printing out these (http://www.draftresistance.org/draftres01.pdf) pamphlets and hanging them over and beside the pro selective service posters. We noticed today that they are being taken down, most likely by teachers.
Earlier today my friend was walking down the hall and noticed a small gathering of people around one of the spots where we had covertly hung an anti-selective service pamphlet, and he overheard a faculty member saying "I don't believe this was pre-approved"
Now all of the ones we have hung up have been removed.

We decided that our motto is for every one they take down, we will put up 2 more.
Does anyone have any advice for when we are caught and confronted?
Don't we have the right of equal representation in school and as such, they don't have the right to punish us or even make us stop hanging the pamphlets side by side with the selective service posters?

If our tactics continue to fail, I plan on removing the posters completely and trashing them, possibly risking a bigger punishment since I am about to graduate.

any thoughts? similar situations?

If the school officials are continually removing them, then why not just pass the flyers out next time the recruiters show up?

What's very unfair about this shitty selective service crap is that when I got my florida dirvers permit they automatically put me in selective service. I didn't know till last month (April) and I got my license in Febuary. So...do you have any info on how to avoid the draft when it starts? (If it starts that is...)

Yeah, same for voter registration. You're required to sign up immediately when you turn 18.

Aside from conscious objection, faking a health problem/complication or simply fleeing to Canada or another foreign country are all options though I don't see why anyone should be worrying about it right now in our current political climate.

Try taking a really thick marker pen and writing DIE FOR EXXON on two or three of them. No need to go out on a limb. Just real cool like. Then every time students see the others, they'll think of your slogan.

Firstly, well done for taking such initiative. Those are well designed flyers!

As teachers will generally punish as they see fit, my advice is to react to your teachers appropriately, you know them better than I do. If they play the "I used to be like you, but could you give it a rest" just go a long with it.

If they detain you, or suspend you, make a fuss. It might (well, actually it would) be a good idea to form a network, of sorts, that would be prepared to go on strike, walk out, or do some sort of supportive action like a banner drop, should anyone get in serious trouble.

I also recommend getting the support of any of the staff if possible (not senior staff)

It's unlikely much will happen to you, I don't think ripping a few posters down is particularly dangerous.

It would be illegal for your school to punish you for simply handing out the posters, so you could try doing that. Aside from that, I would just sign up for selective service. Chances are you won't be caught if you don't, but you can't get financial aid for college if you refuse to sign up.

Really? I thought they looked pretty crappy, and didn't really convey much of anything.

You can't flee to Canada anymore, actually. They'll send you right back.

How would "they" know much less catch you?

Obviously you can go illegally and get by that way, but if you're caught you will be deported to the US and face charges. Canada no longer offers asylum for draft dodgers, as it did in the past.

I'm in a similar situation. I graduate on Monday and haven't signed up for selective service. I just pulled down any of the posters I could get when an administrator wasn't watching.

I agree those posters don't really provide any information at all. However, I'm going to hope they can at least get people to think about it and maybe even visit those websites. I'm just going to print them out in the morning and hand them to everyone on my last day. Should be a nice parting gift!
