What is Hatebreed ? Left or right ?
I always thought they where not right, but a little left.
But I heard some ppl talk about it and they said it was right-winged..

So they got me confused.
The same with the hardcore band Terror. But I'm pretty sure they aren't right, saw them 2 weeks ago, and one of their speeches was like this : "It doesn't matter if you're straight edge or drunk, if you're black or white, if you're metalhead or punk, we are all here for the same reason, destroy this place !!" something like that, and then a fcking great song followed the speech. ^^

I agree that there are skins in Hatebreed and that there are fans that are skins, but I thought they were skinhead against racism..

Help pleaze ?

Greetz,
Ini.

They have got a song called Kill An Addict, that isn't a very tolerant thing to say. I'd say their music is a-political (if that's possible), it's just awesome feel-good music.

well if terror said that then i think they aren't right :P

I'm sorry, I meant Hatebreed. they still fucking rock tho.
And what about other bands like the oldskool Madball, Sworn Enemy? I know Sick of it All is as left as it can possibly get but what about the others in the hardcore genre?

Boriznov

Yeah,

I did some research about skins & hc,
And I read that they like to listen to Agnostic Front, Cro-mags, Warzone, ..
also to the Bruisers, who's singer is now in The Dropkick Murphys

Boriznov

yeah, skins are really misrepresented. skins can have a pretty wide variety of tastes, usually leaning to hardcore, oi, and street punk

I once heard a joke that you won't understand a scene until you try its synonymous drug (e.g. Psychadelia = weed/LSD, Trance = E, etc). So what do you have to do to understand HC?

Yeah. So many in the "scene" are straight edge or just drink.

Remember, not all skins are fascists. Not sure if that was implied. But yeah.

Black Flag (only the keith morris stuff mostly), Circle Jerks, Regulations, Refused are all good and i'm pretty sure mostly left wing.

Actually it's a GABBER remix of the PUNK song kids are united from 7 seconds ...
7 Seconds = black and red so...they're left. There are literally thousands of leftist HC groups , don't know if Hatebreed is one of them...

Actually, the sample is a sham 69 song as opposed to the cover, at least from what I can hear.

And Alec Empire and ATR formed their own genre by blending punk with hardcore techno and breakcore and called it 'digital hardcore', and in my opinion it largely is as good as if not better than nearly all hardcore punk.

Insert speil of cliche shit here*

Nah not really, its music about our lives and our times, dont ever let anyone make think its about new era hats, or the t-shirt you wear, listen to good music and live hardcore and then you are hardcore.

good bands;
Madball
Warzone
Agnostic Front
First Blood
Breakdown
Batallion of Saints
Jaws
Just Say Go
Crown Of Thornz
Powerhouse
Stigmata
50 Lions
Against
Wheres The Pope
Terror
Black Flag
Proteam
Miles Away
Earth Crisis

Hardcore has so many sub-genres, from metal-core to oi-core and even punk-hardcore itself has heaps of bands who sounds are really varied, from more metal influenced to thrash inflenced.

Well some hardcore purists might slate me but I think hardcores indebted immensly to Bad Brains. Although not strictly speaking a hardcore band they paved the way for bands like 7seconds, Minor Threat and Black Flag. I think easily the most talented American punk band, and arguably one of the inventers of hardcore punk.

Hatebreed are probably apolitical.

Terror are left wing, the singer Vogel is known to say 'If a nazi walks through that door kick the shit out of them' haha.

Hatebreed most likely is moderately right-wing. They have a song called "We Still Fight" that is clearly directed at anarchists and left-wing anti-war activists. First it claims that they are "misdirected" and only comment on things that we "can't change" and thus we're "taken our freedom [that we have in the US] for granted".

It also says not to "disgrace" World War II veterans and so on:

You'd be the first to go if there was real anarchy
All your jargon makes me sick
You're the farthest thing from an activist
You've lost sight of what's important and real
You've taken your freedom and safety for granted

As much as I despise the claim that anarchists shouldn't "disrespect" the US, its freedoms, or past wars and veterans, after posting here it's clear that a lot of so-called "activists" do nothing other than "chit-chat" about things that they can never change.

Nevertheless, I used to go to the Hatebreed message on occasion and it was predominantly right-wing total idiots. Classify as skinheads.

Real (good) hardcore bands do indeed include black flag, SS Decontrol, 7 Seconds (one of my favorites also, I love how a lot of their songs, like here's your warning, pretty much could be considered punk or hardcore and they have pretty interesting arrangements and breakdowns and stuff), DRI and so on. Good 90s hardcore bands have already been mentioned like Sheer terror, blood for blood etc.

Sheer Terror are amazingly awesome.

From what I've heard of Raised Fist (which isn't much), they seem like they are a left-wing band. I don't really know about Hatebreed's political views, but when I first heard "Destroy Everything", it immediately struck me as a transhumanist song, though that is unlikely.

This thread deserves to be resurrected.

As far as Hatebreed goes, I think they're okay, but only in moderation. Nearly all of their songs sound so similar and Jamey Jasta never changes his way of singing and it can get boring.

Anyway, question for hardcore fans: what scene has produced better hardcore bands, Boston, or NYC?

As much as I love Sick of it All, Agnostic Front, Biohazard, etc., I am leaning toward Boston just because I love bands like Blood For Blood, Death Before Dishonor, and Gang Green so much.

The singer from Hatebreed once decleared he was a homophobe. Can you get any more stupid than that? being affraid of something that isn't dangerous is the most stupid thing ever. In Holland a lot of nazis also have a bad habit of liking Hatebreed. But dutch mosh kids don't like nazis.I don't dig all these macho mosh bands... give me oldschool like negative approach, minor treath, gorilla biscuits, dead kennedys etc.
