FROM MY BLOG:
A few weeks ago when having dinner with ******, we discussed numerous topics. I do not remember how the question was raised, but ***** asked me, "what if the world was really equal?" I knew what she meant. As sad as it sounds, people benefit from having people who are not as well off as others. It comes down to less competition. If the world were truly equal, then all people would have equal access to a better life, education, jobs, etc. I lose my advantage. I got up for a few minutes and while in the bathroom, I kept thinking about the question posed to me. If the world was equal, there wouldn't be enough jobs for everybody, for there would be increased competition, as I stated before.
I had to take a step back and think, what has to exist before true equality? Before equality could ever exist, society would need to transform into an empathetic caring society that is aware of the inequalities in the first place and then to work to fix the problems. Obviously, not everyone would reach a state of consciousness in which all are equal, regardless of where they came from and who they are. If society were to become an empathetic society, it wouldn't allow for people to fall through the cracks, and society would work for the whole, rather than the individual. I told this to ***** and she responded, "So a communist society?"
"I guess so."
I guess only when society works for the benefit of all, not the individual, will people be equal and protected from the misfortunes of life.
Any thoughts? What would happen if things were equal... somewhat utopian, but whatever.
