Was Chile more modern or had a much better standard of living than it does now with Bachelet?

Well obviously Chile is more modern now than it was thirty years ago. That is just common sense.
It is worth noting though that standards of living certainly fell under Pinochet.

Well, there was economic growth in the first year but there was massive inflation in 1972 and 1973 though not all of it can be blamed on Allende. Chile suffered from some economic problems in the 80's and 90's but things have stabilized today.
i find it funny how some neoliberals try to make pinochet the savior of chile, because he followed friedman to the root, and don't realized the pinochet period was strong in terms of stagnation (1% per year in the whole period, and when central bank of chile said it was enough and took control of echonomy, it jumped to 12% gdp growth =D)
Please don't let yourself fall onto their propaganda and think pinochet did any good to chile.
There is data on central bank of chile, available online, which is very specific on how much "growth" there was under pinochet.
