Yeah reading an article about a film about skinhead culture in the early 80's. Think it's out now. It's written from the perspective of a young boy who joins a gang, then their old leader gets out of prison.
I'm guessing the veck who's really into skinhead culture prior to the NF has already seen it and is it good?
Also, don't put any plot spoilers if you post, please.

yeah im gonna watch it - it looks great. i think its about how a skinhead gang (who start off just as a laugh) get infiltrated by the right wing and turned into a political movement apparently (i cant spoil the plot as i hardly know anything about it) but i will be seeing it.

I've seen it. It's the best movie I've seen in a long, long time. It's great firstly because it shows that the skinheads weren't about racism, which makes it the most accurate skinhead movie to date. Secondly, what it does talk about racism and the national front, it does so very realistically and clearly distinguishes between the two movements. Very interesting. Even the nazi, Combo, isn't a cookiecutter villian. In fact, he is VERY sympathetic, which I think many people on these boards will find very hard to do but it's interesting to see how he came about those views.

It's a great movie and I just love how the skinheads were. I wish they had them onscreen more. The ending was a real tearjerker. I don't think I've ever gotten so emotional over a movie. I was bawling like a baby.

Quite frankly, if you think skinheads are racist or you think you know everything, you have to see this movie. Very touching.

I have the movie if you'd like me to send it to one of you.

I'm planning on seeing it. Sounds like a good flick from everything I've heard.

Saw it the other day and thought it was excellent. It also brings in criticism of Thatcher's government which is also good to see.

Hey, any movie bashing Margeret Thatcher and documenting skinheads is ok in my book. It actually shows how the skinhead movement was infiltrated by racists and fascists? That's got to be interesting. Nowadays the racist skinhead movement pollutes punk music and the UK like no other. France, too. Watch the movie "La Haine" if you don't believe me.

La Haine had nothing to with racist-skin punk music. There's actually only one scene where facists are mentioned or involved...

Two. And the boys hate skinheads. My point wasn't that La Haine was ALL about skinheads, but merely that it showed how skinheads are a part of life in the ghetto.

Saw it recently, it's an awesome film...

Avoiding spoilers is quite difficult, I really enjoyed it bar the undercurrent of the kid's relationship with "smell" (that doesn't give away too much) which I felt detrimented to the rest of the film...

I loved the final scene as well as the soundtrack.

Watching this weekend..friends downloaded it last night and said it was amazing, looking foward to it a lot.

Also as a skinhead it would be good to have my people represented in a fairer light :P

Yeah, it was well done for what it was.

The younge lad who played the lead was very good.

Apparently he'd never acted before, he'd gotten kicked out of his school play for bad behaviour and wanted a fiver to turn up for the "this is england" audition

Nice little film. Stephen Graham (the actor who played Jason Statham's sidekick in Snatch) was very good i thought. The scene with him with Milky near the end of the film...

Yeah, maybe. But it was hilarious though.

Me too.

It's a stunning movie, one of the best I've seen recently, and the soundtrack was brilliant, plus the montage of news clips really helped me feel like I was there, considering I wasn't born at the time it was set.

Oh, and my mum (who used to be a punk and hung around with skinheads) saw a still of the girls and thought it was a picture from the 80's, so it really does look authentic.

Good film!

Agree with the person who said the character of Combo wasn't as black and white as you might think. The news-reel footage of the Falklands War was very good. I saw a Shane Meadows (the director) interview and he said something like ''It was like Mike Tyson against a 5 year old child''.

The pictures of very young Argentine soldiers (I'd say 15/16) is particularly powerful.

Shane Meadows films seem to get good reviews. Although I gather this is the first with such a upfront social message. The rest apparently are inspired by his own personal experiences. Although so was this one, apparently.

This film reminds me of "Romper Stomper" (from the trailer) is it just a relocated remake?

Watched and watched again...brilliant flic, the beginning is great, the acting is actually brilliant and everything is very plausible. It is both gritty and real; watch this film if you haven't!

8/10

No, it's a much more subtle movie.
