Check out all the phoney communists wearing a red guevara shirt and strolling down the avenues considering themselves cool
Beware:this might become contagious!
More: this might create a bad impression about commies.
Next: I am not paranoid but this ain t the way.
I think
i at leastam sick of all the damn kids thinking they re natural born rebels when they don t even know if che guevara really existed!

Not everyone with a Guevara shirt on is a phoney commie wannabe cool bastard. I have lots of Guevara shirts, political statement shirts, uniforms, and I know that it is not cool. It is not cool at all. Absolutely not cool. You can't imagine what I go through in my new school...maybe you can but yeah.

There was only one person who ever knew who Ernesto"Che"Guevara Lynch de La Serna truly was ... and that mi amigos was Che himself - Karo

As for these kids wearing Che shirts I say dont knock it ... perhaps they dont know who Che is at first but they may become motivated in finding out when they begin to be taunted and harrassed by hardline yanks calling them commie-bastards and other such names.Comrade ravengod is correct in saying that with many kids Che is nothing more than a current fad, still there are kids that are well aware of the essence of Che and the cause of his untimely death and have chosen to still it in the face of those who hate and despise what he stood for.I recall that in high school I wore a large black clenched fist(symbol of black power)on a necklace which was a provocative statement to be made at the time by a white boy.Generally, being cool means being a non-conformist.Throughout my school years I was(still am) a loner and what few friends I had shared my views else we had little use for one anothers company.I came from a poor family and shall never forget the cruel manner in which I was treated by those kids who thought that simply because they were afforded the finer things that money can buy that they were somehow better than I,for on a mortuary slab all men all equal.Once more concerning the Che shirts and such I will say that given Ches view on imperialist yanks I think perhaps he would have despised the idea that these rich kids were wearing shirts bearing his image, but his greater indignation wouldve been due to the fact that his image is being used for capitalist gain. - Karo

I like this topic as it has not yet turned into an argument and remains a discussion. Kehoe I agree with the point which you make and see it as a valid one. I have recently been thinking of getting a shirt mocked up with Castro's image on the back. The point of this for me is that shirts with images create discussion and this gives me a chance to make others aware. I do not have the best knowledge in the world but I believe the words I speak and can justify them to myself and through such an act hopefully others. It is a shame that Che's image has become a source of income, Korda himself took the matter to court in relation to its use in selling vodka. By the way I was not aware that Lynch was a part of his name. In my copy of the Encyclopaedia Brittanica it says Ernesto Guvara De La Serna. Coulde you please educate me as to where you heard this and its origins. A shirt of Mugabe is not cool, I say if people want to make a statement they should go for someting with less hype around it such as an image of perhaps Raul or even Trotsky for that matter. It is disheartening what Che has become, perhaps this would not of happened on such a grand scale were he perceived as not good looking.

By the way what is the relevance of this subject to Theory? I am not arguing merely asking a question.

Comrade La Vista ... Ches father descened from the Lynch family whose origins were Irish having been one of the fourteen tribes of Galway, likewise my father descended from one of these fourteen tribes as well.I am also part mullungeon(mixed blood of Portugese and native American). As for Ches ancestry, this can be seen in any indepth biography of Che,I have the book written by Jon Lee Anderson (which I highly recommend)concerning Che as well as a video biography. As for this topic being placed within the Theory forum I see no problem with this,it could have easily been introduced into the Che Guevara forum, the relevance of the subject and its discussion is equally worthy in either. As for the vodka add campaign displaying Ches image ... this is completely unacceptable,I myself am an adherent to sobriety and like most I project this element of my personal choice onto Che thinking that he too wouldve chosen to face life with a clear mind. - Karo
