I've been trying to piece some articles together about Ecuador, but not much is explained in American newspapers. Can anyone give me the scoop on the political situation/history of Ecuador? Is the any sort of leftist movement going on there?

Correa (http://www.revleft.com/index.php?showtopic=59205&hl=Ecuador)

revolutionary progress in Latin America (http://www.revleft.com/index.php?showtopic=41551&hl=Ecuador)

Well, Rafael Correa just became president of Ecuador in January. He's an ally of Chavez and like Chavez maintains an anti-US policy and is an advocate of democratic socialism.

As far as an actual radical leftist movement in Ecuador, there is still a moderately strong trade union movement, the Confederation of Ecuadorian Workers, but I haven't heard much about them.

This article (http://www.marxist.com/ecuadorian-masses-oligarchy-imperialism190407.htm) gives a pretty good analysis of what is going on, from a Marxist perspective.

It is the militancy of the masses that is most inspiring about the situation in Equador, just as it is in Venezuela.

Also this (http://www.greenleft.org.au/2007/707/36701), and there are more articles on the right-hand side of the page.

Ecuador Rising (http://ecuador-rising.blogspot.com/) also keeps a fairly up to date posting of news, and there are useful links.
