So I'm reading this book about Government conspiracy, and its great, but after researching it a little, I found nothing to back up anything written. So is this guy full of shit?

I haven't read it, but Chomsky's a respected academic, and I doubt he is just making stuff up

As far as I know Chomsky always backs up his claims, with quotations and plenty of information about the subject he's writing about. Usually he uses data from documents and press.

Havent read this particular book (yet) though.

You mean the title is called "What Uncle Sam Really Wants." In that book Dr. Chomsky challenges you to do your own research and sift through the government documents that are available.

"You can also do your own research. Don't just rely on the conventional history books and political science texts -- go back to specialists' monographs and to original sources: national security memoranda and similar documents. Most good libraries have reference departments where you can find them.

It does require a bit of effort. Most of the material is junk, and you have to read a ton of stuff before you find anything good. There are guides that give you hints about where to look, and sometimes you'll find references in secondary sources that look intriguing. Often they're misinterpreted, but they suggest places to search.

It's no big mystery, and it's not intellectually difficult. It involves some work, but anybody can do it as a spare-time job. And the results of that research can change people's minds. Real research is always a collective activity, and its results can make a large contribution to changing consciousness, increasing insight and understanding, and leading to constructive action."

Not to mention that Chomsky provides footnotes and work cited citations:

In the book Chomsky talks about Klaus Barbie. Even Hollywood acknowledges that Barbie was a Nazi used by the U.S. in Europe and Latin America. There is a documentary that won Best Oscar "Hotel Terminus"

I'm reading Chomsky's "Understanding Power" and the footnotes to that book are 500 pages, which would be too long to include in the book so Chomsky has included the footnotes online.

But whenever i try to reserarch anything, I am denied access to the information. Either it is not there, or I do not have permission...

For example, Chomsky talks about a land mass that the US wanted to incorporate into its territory, called the Grand Area, but there is no documented evidence that i can find that backs this up in any way.

I don't understand what you are saying. That you go to the library and try to search for something and they deny you permission. Be more specific. I saw nothing in Chomsky's pamphlet where he says the U.S. wanted to annex " a grand area." You are reading it wrong. Why don't you email chomsky himself at

I write to him myself every now and then and he's always gracious to answer.

Chomsky 's Uncle Sam Book was never intended to be a huge scholarly book. It is just a pamphlet for the uninitiated or the novice to U.S. criminal actions so that they do not feel intimidated by a huge book. Try William Blum's book Killing Hope.
