I hate talking theory - it always gets me in trouble!
BUT, globalisation ain't imperialism! Moreover, both have been around for a long time.

Just quickly on globalisation, there is a great book called 'Globalization in World History', that covers this topic well. The east Asians were engaged in global trade long before Westerners like me had figured out how to write.

On emperialism, its way older than the Romans. And it still exists. In the conventional geo-political form, and the economic/cultural terms we would consider today. There is a great book by Bighmant called 'Modern Empires' which is a must read.
