Inequality causes crime - however has the crime-rate in Venezuela dropped recently due to Chavez's reforms?

Does Caracas still have a massive murder rate?

Yes, Caracas' murder rate is still shockingly high, but I'm not sure if it has dropped recently.

Venezuela is going to use blimps to combat crime now, according to the BBC.

If I remember correctly it has fallen a bit but is still incredibly high. Venezuala has particularly high gun violence I believe.

The country still has a great deal of inequality so it is to be accepted

actually i forgot to put in the original post, that 1 in 4 Venezuelans carries a gun in their day-to-day lives, so that would be another reason for it.

But blimps though..... wtf?

I was there two summers ago with a friend and her family that were Venezuelan. We stayed right outside of Caracas. We weren't allowed out by ourselves, and her whole family stayed inside after dark. There were many shootings. Also, the public restrooms in the malls were almost as bad as the streets. The police often made suggestive remarks to me, and one preceeded to attempt to touch me.

I don't know much else, but at times it was scary.

However, the country is beautiful!

Venezuela has around 10,000 to 11,000 homicide cases per year. It has certainly increased since the 1990's though the recent government cannot be held as the sole factor even though critics do not feel that it has responded appropriately to the problem.
