People can take pride in being a communist or an anarchhist, yet I never see anyone go "Yeah I'm a cappie." Perhaps saying you're a democract or a republican automatically puts you in this category?

Just an odd thing I noticed. Comments?

Its probably one of two things IMO -

1. Most of the world lives under a capitalist government, so there isnt really a need to be vocal about their pride.

2. Most people hate their government in some way or another, so most people wouldnt be proud to call themselves a capitalist.

You do find the odd wacko's who take pride in being capitalist, mostly right wing activists who thoroughly believe in neo-liberalism rather than just being content with the status quo... People like Boris Berezovsky and Rush Limbaugh who want to spread capitalism all over the world and whatnot...

To quote Rush "poverty is not due to an unequal distribution of wealth, but an unequal distribution of capitalism" or something like that

Take a wonder into Opposing Ideologies and you will see it. A bunch ofwackos proclaiming how capitalism helps freedom and how it is such a wonderful thing yadda yadda yadda

Fact: There are more people who support Communism than support Capitalism.

It is just that the vast majority of people aren't aware of the nature of the capitalist system - the division of labour and it's exploitation. Or if they are, they don't feel it's possible to do anything about it. Or, their revolutionary movements have been repressed. -> Capitalists rely on ignorance, apathy and violence to retain power. Not "support".

My opinion anyway.

Aside from libertarians and conservatives, most people recognize the failures of their respective states as well as the capitalist economic system.

The majority of teenagers that I know don't support capitalism or vice versa; they simply don't know about it, don't understand, or don't care.

Whether this is worse than being a capitalist I still can't decide.

Apathy is worse than Capitalism...

As for Capitalist Pride, how many times have you seen people swarn the streets with signs like "Vive Le Status Quo" or "Every thing is alright"? not to many pro-capitalist simply apathists who are content with ignorance...

The justification for capitalism comes from mythical property rights. It's an empire of hot air.

EDIT:

That was sort of obscure, so I'll attempt to clarify what I mean by that. If you discuss with hardline capitalists about the abuses they commit by taking the surplus value, by essentially dictating to their employees the material conditions etc etc, they say "well he owns the business" and leave it at that. So as I say, it's all built on an extreme bastardization of the old customs where small artisans and farmers owned their tools and plots of land. The capitalists took those values and made it so that what applied to late 15th century individuals could apply to them.

I can only speak for the United States.

Most of us don't live our lives as class oriented beings in the United States. Capitalism is simply how we interact economically.

When we go out to dinner, a moive, a club, or a sporting event, we are perhaps acting in a capitalist style (that is, we accept that not everyone will be able to do what we do, or not all of us can do what others do, or that one person has chosen to use their money for x, and therefore can't afford to also do y.

There is no pride in this. I don't think anyone intends there to be.
