Welfare is the workers subsidising the capitalists yet again. Our taxes pay the dole cheques.
I don't think it makes people lazy, it breaks your soul destroys your sense of usefulness and isolates you from society. It's even worse if these traits pass onto your children.
It creates a legacy of dispair all so the capis can have cheap labour ie. basic demand and supply.

The average welfare mother works the same number of hours as the average non-welfare mother.

Welfare is really just a reaction to the current state of society where you can't support your family with a single paycheck...or two...or three. Nobody wants to see people starving when they walk to work.

You've obviously never experienced the "joys" of unemployment yet then kamo.The dole has kept me from starving,or having to beg in the streets,a couple of times.Without it I'd have been screwed.Any one who knows me will tell you that I'd rather work than go through the humiliation of signing on for the subsistance allowance single males receive.In '93 I had to live on 11pounds 60p a week for 2 months.Life of riley it was.Didn't want to get a job and spoil the life of leisure I had.Jobs everywhere there was!But I said"Fuck it!I'd rather have 11.pounds 60 and sit on my arse."

Most people on welfare are tired, hungry, and demoralized. It is not a "lifestyle choice," as some conservative thinkers would have us believe.

While there are a few who do abuse it, just as there are some homeless who actually prefer being on the streets, these are the minority, and a small minority at that in both cases.

Welfare doesn't make people lazy. Most people on welfare cannot wait to get off it.

This topic is sensitive to me currently because of the massive cuts to government and social programs brought about by the current BC government. There are massive amounts of people out of work...or about to be out of work. The BC government promised a "New Era for BC"- a wave of new jobs and economic growth. And the exact opposite has happened.

It's now called the "New Error for BC" by many.

And some of my friends are right in there. Good people, many with university degrees will soon be on unemployment. In the meantime finance minister Murray Coell is blasting those on unemployment, all the while his government slashes jobs and programs- and, of course, giving great tax breaks to the richest individuals and corporations.

Welfare is NOT a lifestyle choice.
