Do most people believe that a revolution will come about by the inevitable collapse of capitalism and the rising up of the workers, or do most believe that it will come about by the forceful overthrow of capitalism?

Also, is it the proletarian state after the revolution that separates communists from anarchists?

Is the proletarian state the same thing as the vanguard party?

What's the difference? All revolutionary leftists believe that some type of force will probably be necessary in order to destroy capitalism. The amount will depend on the condition/health of capitalism and the bourgeois state.

Also, is it the proletarian state after the revolution that separates communists from anarchists?
Yes, it's one of the major factors in terms of the differences between Marxists and anarchists.

Is the proletarian state the same thing as the vanguard party?
No, the vanguard party is supposedly a select group of professional revolutionaries who will help lead the people to revolution. A proletarian state is to be composed of everyone rather than a few, "advanced" individuals.

We need to be careful here. It is true that, as capitalism enters into crisis, there is an upswing in class struggle. This is a material fact. However, that does not mean socialism will inevitably triumph. Another crisis of capitalism, which we are entering right now, will either result in the revolutionary triumph of the proletariat world wide or the decimation of humanity.

or do most believe that it will come about by the forceful overthrow of capitalism?
Capitalism must definitely be forcefully overthrown. There is a dialectical relationship between the spontaneous action of the proletariat and the conscious action of the vanguard of the proletariat. The only way for the revolution to succeed is for a combination of the necessary material conditions and a correct and militant leadership. Right now we have the material conditons for revolution coming into existence all over the world. The determining factor will be the quality of the leadership.

Also, is it the proletarian state after the revolution that separates communists from anarchists?
Yes, though that is certaintly not the only difference. There are profound philosophical differences between anarchists and marxists, so profound that the leave any similarities more illusory than anything. For more on these differences, check out:

Is the proletarian state the same thing as the vanguard party?
No. The vanguard party is a democratic centralist party composed of class-conscious workers armed with the marxist method, which exists to lead the rest of the class through the revolutionary process. The workers state is the armed proletariat organized as ruling class for the suppression of the bourgeoisie.
