What is socialism? Ask ten socialists and you'll probably get twelve different answers!
I suggest you take a look at the statment of principles (http://sp-usa.org/principles.htm) from the Socialist Party USA and, if you have any questions about them, come on back and we'll try to answer them. That would be a much more fruitful endeavor, I think, than having a whole bunch of people try to encapsulate an entire philosophy, and all of its various threads, into a few simple posts.

My dictionary defines it as: The theory, principle, or scheme of social organisation which places the means of production of wealth and the distribution of that wealth in the hands of the community.
Socialism is a broad term that covers a variety of governmental theories that focus on equality for all.
