There's an upcoming world trade meeting in my city (Reno), on May 22. I would like to take some sort of action, but I am not in any affinity groups or any of that. I'd be acting alone.
Is there anything I can do?

try to see if there are some friends willing to do anything, and print some pamphlets and try posting them at your local library, school/university, bar, etc, with like your e-mail address underneath if people want to hook up and do something.
Also, i doubt that there aren't other organisations coming to protest from outside reno, or perhaps even inside Reno, in that case just hook up.

Just last week i was attending a busniess symposium.. tried to get some anti-FTAs and anti-WTOs but none of them responded ( well i don't blame them).. but i was shocked with the major approval of socialist and communist economics (IN BAHRAIN!!)..
It would be better to go with a bunch of people rather than going on your own (It feels stupid)...start with pamphlets though..

I think that things you can do on your own would be mainly of the guerrilla/undercover variety. Somethng like vandalism, ohysical attack of the place, sabotage...
Its not wise to discuss these things on an internet board or with untrusted people. (http://www.iht.com/articles/2007/03/25/news/protest.php)
Try to get in contact with a local anti capitalist organisation. They probably already have a network. If this is a big event they probably already ahave heard of it.

Reno is in Nevada in the USA. Or at least I guess that is where they are.
And to the thread starter, I would suggest printing out pamphlets and putting them everywhere detailing why the WTO is not nice. Include a "contact me for more information or to get involved". Have an anonymous email address at the bottom so that people can contact you.
If you get more then a few people willing to protest, run a protest (more pamphlets everywhere detailing when, where and why). Else decide something else to do.
Also, check out the local Indymedia (I'm guessing this one http://renoimc.org/ ) for other things, and also post that the WTO is happening on there as well (enough details, including links to the WTO site). Mention your anonymous email address as well.
The main bit of advice if you are going ahead with this (and I think you should), is to read up on what the WTO is and why it is a problem. Also be able to present alternatives.

Although I am pretty sure the internet would not be the greatest source of information about this, all I can find is that it is coming up. It's in celebration of World Trade Day, and NEWTRAC is having this big meeting with Senator Reid, and all that jazz. All I can really find about them is that they (obviously) are the international trade organization of Nevada, and they're supported by NAFTA.
Why is there no longer a struggle against such organizations? I don't imagine they could have gotten any better. A few years ago, it would have gotten lots of attention, but now it has none.
