There are countless conspiracy theories surrounding this issue. I won't give any links to sites like 911truth because if you google it you can get hundreds anyway.

What are your opinions on this.

Personally, I am certain that the US government either made the attacks happen or let the attacks happen. If they had no direct involvement then they certainly knew of the attacks but did nothing to give them an excuse for invading Iraq (which is ultimately what came from the attacks, even though at first Bush was adament it was the Saudis and nothing to do with Iraq).

On another note, what happened on September 11th 2001 was a tragedy. It's a crying shame no good has come of it. It hasn't stopped the US support of Israel. It's furthered the limitations of our freedom in the name of so called 'counter terrorism'. Bush has always said 'You are either with us, or the terrorists.' Seeing as Bush is himself a terrorist and is responsible for the deaths of a shitload more people than died in 9/11, it would seem his statement brands everyone a terrorist.

It's quite obvious who did it; and it wasn't the government. Such claims of a vast government conspiracy are usually fueled by nuts believing that the New World Order wants to create a world government. The logic behind most of these claims are flawed, and with simple reasoning can be debunked.

One problem with conspiracy theories, aside from the total lack of evidence, is it opens up more questions, which again has no evidence.

Its like, a continual cycle that cannot be resolved.

It was terrorists.

There is evidence that the Bush administration ignored reports of activity, but there's nothing really beyond that.

No one can adequately suggest that the White House was involved in 9/11, and the most one can claim is that the Bush administration knew and didn't do anything, which is still very suspect and IMO, unreasonable.

Leave the conspiracy theories to the liberals.

It is called carelessness. But anyway who could have suspected that Osama had such and such plans to do on 9/11.

Not only Bush but US support of Saudi ruling class has been a long time policy. They have supported not only them but also ruling dynasties of Jordan,UAE, Qatar and Kuwait in the face of both Pan-Arabism and Communism. Now it is supporting them because of Pan-Islamism

I don't think the govt. did it, but I bet if they could turn back the clock and prevent it from happening they wouldn't. I live in nyc and literally within the week I saw people selling t-shirts that read "I survived 9/11." So I said to myself: "If street vendors are profiting off of this already, I can just imagine what bush and his little piglets are going to do." And they certainly didn't let me down. My favorite part of 9/11 was when Bush told everybody to keep buying shit, I found that very telling indeed. Right after it happened, the media kept on droning about how it united amerikans and all that, but they failed to mention all the world wide demonstrations of solidarity with us. I guess people in other countries thought that now, since we got a taste of our own medicine, amerika might rethink its role in the world...well, didn't happen. As a matter of fact, one wasn't allowed to ask why it happened, unless it was in the rhetorical sense. For me that's the big tragedy: that we didn't learn anything from it.
As for the people who thought der Führer and the others planned it, they're in good company. I heard somewhere that around 1/3 of amerikans believe that the govt. had something do with it. If this is true it really reflects badly on amerikans: we just take it for granted that the govt. is run by lying murderers and gangsters, nut nobody seems to see a problem with it! I'm not saying they are incapable of killing their own people, I just doubt that they would attack their own institutions--I think putting a bomb on a subway or something, where it would kill normal people is really more of their style. Another thing that I find telling is that right after it happened, we saw the "cult of the fireman" emerge. Since the people who worked in the pentagon and wtc really weren't the most sympathetic of victims, I think they felt it necessary to put a working class face on the whole incident.

I don't think the government did it, I think maybe they just let it happen so they would have an excuse to start wars in the Middle East. FDR did something similer with Pearl Harbor.
