NY police spied on activists before 2004 convention (http://www.iht.com/articles/2007/03/25/news/protest.php)
From Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Montreal, from San Francisco to Miami, undercover New York police officers attended meetings of political groups, posing as sympathizers or fellow activists, the records show.
They made friends, shared meals, swapped e-mail messages and then filed daily reports with the police department's Intelligence Division. Other investigators mined Internet sites and chat rooms.
Also mentioned is a "cyberintelligence unit." If peace and enviornmental groups were being watched, this site could be as well.

Hmmm, makes me think of the Gestapo or the Statsi (DDR) ;)

Fascists sometimes do this as well though the police and federal gov. are certainly better at it due to the resources at their command. This is an example of where it's best to really know and figure out who your contacts/connections really are.

Really getting to know your comrades can combat police insurgency and I'm not talking about background checks. Invite them over/out for dinner a few times and make it clear that a true friendship is in order. Try to get yourself to there given address on terms of friendship or business. This is pretty sound because police don't have a large enough budget to be able to assign full agents into a small time groups and construct entirely new identities. If the person is a cop then there house will likely leak that truth.
Also remember, no matter what you may think, federal cops DO whatch forums like RevLeft!

Logically obviously the police would watch this site, I mean, considering the amount of leftists sharing ideas here the police must see it as heaven o____o

that's nothing new, but it's good that a mainstream media source reported it, that way it's more credibly. (there still are activists who don't believe the police could be watching them and infiltrating their groups.

I wonder if there have ever been cases in which a police watching a site or infiltrating a group actually begins to symphatize with our political ideas?

Im sure this has occured, but maybe once, or twice. I remmebr it happens in one memorable Freak Brothers episode.
Im not too bothered about this site but i know that the cops around my area watch our websites.
I tried having a bit of a revolutionary get together. I advertised almost exclusively through my local indymedia. When i got to the venue the area was being monitored by Riot police (full G8 apparel too, so no joking) . They searched all of us, took names and shit and then reluctantly let us go. What im saying is rely only on tried and trusted contacts. But dont expect word not to get out of whatever your doing if you try and get lots of people involved.

Has anyone from revleft actually ever been arrested/indicted/convicted due to the Gestapo watching this forum?

The closest thing to what you are talking about that I know of would be this here (http://www.revleft.com/index.php?showtopic=64970)

A guy left revleft because since he had joined he had a series of encounters with cops and the tyres on his car ramdomly exploded into flame while he was driving.

If you're talking about RevolutionaryMarxist, he never left. He admitted that he was being a little too paranoid (though he never mentioned anything about his car spontaneously combusting).
