i want to make a thread devoted to paint markers and their infinite usefulness. i always carry one or two paint markers with me wherever i go in case i feel like writing on walls, bathroom stalls, desks, etc. does anyone else do this? post pictures of paint marker graffiti you have seen and discuss your favorite paint markers. i used to use on the run markers but i just bought a red montana marker and its much, much better. but seriously, paint markers are the greatest writing instruments ever. you can take them everywhere and write on everything.

i used too have a couple of cheap paint markers. I either lost them all or they ran out of ink. They're really hard to buy around here because they enforce the 18 year old to buy laws pretty harshly

we dont have those laws where i live so its ridiculously easy to get tons of spraycans and paint markers quickly. no matter what age you are, you can go to a store and buy a huge box of paint, no questions asked.

What's a paint marker? Is that like a thick texta or what?

A paint marker is a marker used by writers (generally for tagging but also for doing karaks and hollowed throwies too, obviously the possibilties are endless  ) that's generally a very thick marker which utilizes oil based paint. They're a lot more vibrant and opaque, will mark an a much larger range of surfaces than ink based markers, much harder to buff, and much more resistant to fading.
Red october talks about OTR markers and Montana...these are both brands that are made specifically for graffiti. Around here, you can easily rack tons of different brands that are sold at all types of stores. They aren't only used for graffiti, in fact, they typically aren't supposed to be, so you can find them at places like Walmart, office supply stores Office Depot or Office Max, as well as art supply stores like Hobby Lobby, Michaels, etc. Real easy to come by. Make sure you rack from big business though, don't steal from any local shops.
Write now I don't have much, I've mostly just been using mops and a few meanstreaks. A meanstreak is a brand of marker but used in reference to a specific type of paint marker which is basically solid paint...the effect is that your tag will look like crayon. Pretty tight.
You can make your own markers real easily and get all sorts of effects, such as hella drips or what not by making your own paint or ink mixtures and putting them in a container with something to write though. Mine are all with shoe polish containers right now, but in the past I've made them with everything from water bottles and similar sorts of things to bingo dabbers, even film canisters and chapstick tubes. If anyone is interested hit me up in the thread or on PM and I'd be happy to make a thread about it!

all spraypaint and paint pens are almost always locked. You have to ask someone working at the place just to look at it. I've never seen any montana, blubber, or special graffitti paint in stores, even skate shops and the like. I got kicked out of a hardware store the first time I tried to buy spray paint because I was a minor. To sum it up, its pretty strict, but people still get paint up. Although alot, lot less then the early 90s and before where the subways and streets were one giant mural.

i hate my school bathrooms. the stalls are made of a black composite material that is highly resistant to graffiti. its textured, but the material itself is like teflon so no ink or paint will stick to it. the walls of the bathroom are also covered in very smooth ceramic tiles that paint does not adhere to. fuck anti-graffiti walls! :(

I checked the internet and it has said things like "21 years or older guardian must sign for package when recieved" on all the sites. The second way is how I've gotten all my paint, also when I needed paint to try to make a flag the comrades at Revolution Books let me borrow it

Uni campuses are pretty eas y to hit up at night (gotta watch for the campus security but)... there's always heaps of empty classrooms and lecture theatres - at all times of the day... desks in the library(ies)...
Oh and usually you wont be bothered for chalking around a uni campus neither.

They do have some cameras, mostly inside along the corridors along the ceiling (not huge whit ones, but little ones that go above the double doors).

eh it's prolly not worth it - there are plenty of places to hit up round uni campuses where there's no cameras, so theres no real point in going for the more secure places ya know? It just increases the likelihood of getting caught/identified - which could get TAKN booted from his degree if he studies at the campus in question.

I know my uni actively encourages chalking. I think their attitude is "If they're chalking, they're not out there with spraycans."
But people are, really... It's just the Christian groups that stick to chalking, everywhere. All the time.
But yeah. Uni's also often have nice little pathways that are deserted at night but get used by heaps of people during the day- maybe as they come off public transport, or shortcuts to somewhere. They're awesome targets because heaps of people see them, and there's less likely to be surveillance there.

my school cleans the paint marker stuff off every day, but we keep marking up the stalls. hopefully theyll just give up. even if they dont, it costs us less money to put it up than for them to clean it off.

I buy it at my local head shop. It's about $18-20 for 8oz of it, and about $8 for a krink marker. I havent gotten a marker yet, but the liquid stuff is great, even if you dont write with it. Pouring silver krink over a boring looking object out on the street makes it look way cooler.

Any paint can be easily scrubbed off a window. Most ink markers can be as well.
Krink, or other home-made, unfadeable inks, on the other hand, can't be washed away.
Glass etcher is also fairly easy to "acquire." If you're going to buy it, though, buy it in another town far away.

get a shoe polish mop and soak the krink into it, then just use the mop like you would a paint brush. i dont think you could use a regular paint brush because krink is so thin, but im not sure on that.

yo I got an L Shorty OTR and a .60 OTR, I haven't tried the .60 yet but the L shorty is garbage. the ink doesn't paint smooth and its blobby alot of the time

I just got a shiny metallic purple OTR .60 that paints well, a chrome molotow .60 marker that also paints well, and a krink marker with a chisel tip. the krink marker writes alot like a sharpie, but the ink is much heavier, darker, and permanent. i love it! the head shop where i get my stuff just received a big order of markers and paint, so i've been using all my spare money on that.

well depends they are better than krinks and other arts and crafts paint pens and better sharpies or magnums but the disadvantage is that the nib (even in the largest size marker) is only about an 1/8th of an inch thick and its mettle so it makes a lot of noise. The pluses to it are that its hard as hell to buff and really cheap. I would recommend it though all the writers I chill with have them. Also I would take a look at moltow and montana markers.

I have to revive this thread because I just got some awesome new markers. The store where I buy my spraypaint just got in a new shipment of Krink markers, so I picked up red, chrome, black and blue markers. They're all awesome, but the blue one is special. It's called ''bleed-thru blue" because it can be seen through anything thats painted over it, making it perfect for permanent graffiti. I haven't tried them all out, but the red one is great. The only problem is that they're ink markers, not paint, so they don't show up well on all surfaces with the exception of the chrome one. But they're pretty much fade proof as far as I know. I've done tags with a black krink marker and they have never faded in the sun or from weather. It's good stuff.
