i have a question, what if one country who colonialised/imperialised had a revolution what will happen to the colonised islands, countries, etc..
for example if the USA had a revolution would Puerto Rico be a part of the revolutionary changes or would it get the independence it deserves?
i think if we had revolutionised a colony of the previous regime as a part of the rest of the country and then give it indepence they would reverse the changes out of rejection of the colonialism.

interesting question...I myself am from Puerto Rico...
I suppose it depends on what kind of politics is leading the revolution....
in an anarchist one due to decentralization they would become indepedent because all the communes in PR would possibly, can't tell for sure, join an island-wide (and surrounding small island) federation. However this can only happen if a revolution is also occuring in PR. IF there is no revolution and the US has a libertarian socialist majority revolution than PR might end up with no ties to the US (since original government was overthrown) yet they might still have a state. However, a domino effect could happen and the Puerto Ricans could do their own revolution as well (as long as the US one looks good that is!)
In a M-L type, the party would either do something like the USSR where PR becomes a socialist republic yet is federated into the main republic. Or they could just give it indepedence (as a independent socialist republic) yet even in this option they have the other option of making PR a satellite state like the USSR did somewhat with Cuba. OR they could do what the US has done in the past; after the revolution pass a referundum to see if they want to be a federated socialist republic or independent.

Way to turn an answer into an under-handed sectarian insult!
"Oh, well if it was anarchist they'd be independant... but Leninists would do what the USSR did and enforce federalism on them."
Yeah, right.

I dont think that will happen,i agree with Lenin's analysis of Imperialism. That a revolution is most likely to break out in the weakest chain of world capitalism.
But hypotheticaly Puerto Rico would of course be given the right to national self-determination or they could remain within a union of socialist republics

This question cannot possibly be answered. What would happen? No one on here can answer this. We can perhaps guess, but that is worth little to nothing. It depends on the conditions at the time and what occurs from now until then.
My guess: I have no fucking clue.

I would assume that any post-revolutionary governments would drop any cede control over remaining any colonies and most support progressive movements within said countries.

I agree with Janus, if a country underwent revolutionary change, I believe that any territorial posessions would cease to be colonies, and these independent territories would then be led by their respective progressive movements
In addition, I also believe that the influence and movement which spurned revolutionary change in the colonist country, would make its way to its former colonies, and sooner or later these former colonies would themselves undergo revolutions

Puerto Rico would only be part of the revolutionary changes if there was a revolution going on there. I doubt they would just be dragged into a full-fledged revolution just because the U.S. is. Also, if they did begin their own revolution, I doubt they would continue political ties with the U.S. Though, as Jello said, none of us can really answer this question with a solid answer because none of us can foresee how the revolution will really play out, we can only make educated guesses/assumptions.

I had no intentions of this; I was only answering based on my knowledge of the fact that the USSR was formed from federated socialist republics and the idea that "in unity there is strength, etc". SO I used the USSR as in example.
The USSR didn't let the other conquer territories of former Russia Empire to be independent; they just turned them into federated republics.
Maybe you are just being to defensive; Also I mentioned the possibility of a referendum, which is what the US does.

What should happen? Remove all imperialist forces and economic interests from the country. Grant them independence. Hope revolutionary situation spreads into the former colony, although it may not.
What has happened? Well, after the Russian Revolution Lenin and the Bolsheviks released all the info on the Russian Empire's machinations during WWI where it plotted to split up spheres of influence with other nations. Ultimately however it ended up basically turning a lot of it's satellite states into semi-colonies.

Well, in general, the idea of a proletarian revolution is that it will either be worldwide or will spread... I would hope that by the time the United States is ready for revolution, so too would the people of Puerto Rico.

I think Puerto Rico is more "ready" for a revolution than the US. (at least by comparing and contrasting my experiences, I lived all my life in PR and recently moved to Florida.)
In PR the people are very apathetic and/or afraid of change. However , I feel that there is less reactionary elements in Puerto Rico than in the US.
Also...it seems that religions and politics in PR aren't as intertwined as in the US.

Such as? Former nations within the Russian Empire were either set free (Finland, Poland and the Baltic States) or generally folded into the USSR as an integral part of the new union of republics. At no point did the USSR maintain "semi-colonies".
