Around 12 thousands of members of Polish Teachers Union marched in Warsaw in protest against policy of ministry of education, Roman Giertych that is member of nationalist Polish Families League, that remains in goverment coalition together with conservative Party for Law and Justice, led by Jarosław Kaczyński twin brother of president Lech Kaczyński

The unionists march for pay rise that they demand 7%, but the ministry states that only what they can do is 3%. Teachers also criticize the policy of minister, mainly his program 'No tolerance', that want to introduce police hours for teenagers, making new category of school for 'bad youth'.

Protestors blocked most of Warsaw city centre

Union want as well higher prices for young teachers and decreasing minimum age that teachers are allowed to retire.

Controversial ideas of Giertych was also providing school programs that filter internet to avoid surfing porn, satanism and violence. The decision was recognised as scandalous because program as well filters most of left and atheist websites.

The ministry also wants to revise the history taught at school and at some parts Darwin theory. Vice ministry of education, Mirosław Orzechowski sayied even that: 'Darwin theory is a joke, of old atheist fart that should be rather in SF films for dummies not at school. Crime is a revision of creationism that was a part of our heritage for 2 thousands years'.

Polish Teachers Union

The teachers supported by unionists from Free Trade Union 'August80', socialdemocratic Allpolish Association of Trade Unions, parents with children and Socialdemocracy of Poland, not pleasant was a fact that some leaders of regional structures of PTU, working also in SoP didn't allow to carry flags of members of Polish Labour Party.

The protestors were angrily attacked by the viceministry of education Mirosław Orzechowski, that held a press conference during the protest: 'The protestors where payied by union officials, everyone got 25 zloty (6 dollars). The Polish Teachers Union is a communist organisation that supported communism.' The vice ministry also announced that Polish Families League want to push the bill that would take away all of the bureau's and other estates of the union that where bought before 1989.

Lair and dyletant Orzechowski, previously member of Polish National-Catholic Movement, head editor of nationalist newspaper 'Polish Aspect'.

This is significant falsation. The Polish Teachers Union origins in 1905 and was organised by Polish Socialist Party. During II Republic 1918-1939 it was also dedicated supporter of PSP but also members of Peasant Alliance and Communist Party where members of Union. During Second World War PTU playied significant role in clandestine education during nazi occupation. After 1945 it was rebuilt legally, it rebuilt as well it's offices that where destroyied during war. The decision of Orzechowski may mean that union can lost all of it's estates.

As well 6 dollars is funny price for many teachers that traveled from all of the Poland, sometimes even 8 hours and than marched for 5 hours. Union officials stated that they didn't pay for taking part in demonstration, although some structures payied some money to their activists in addition of refunding lunch.

In response to Orzechowski attacks, teachers left in front of Ministry of Education, bills for Orzechowski that are needed to send someone to the mental sick hospital.

I wonder how long it will take the Poles to revolt against their current system . Their country was totally looted and indebted in the famous " Looting of 1989 " in eastern europe . I dont get how come they can still vote the capitalists . I wnet there once in the mid 1990's , homeless children lay on the streets ... During socialism everyone had a house , no one was homeless . Poles have an unemployment rate of 20% , during socialism they had 0% . Before 1989 , they consumed their own agriculture goods , now they have to import . They may have many goods in stores now , but most can't afford them , thus they buy it on credit , then they get indebted , and many turn up on the street . That is the "democracy" and "freedom" in Poland right now . That Polish governments is such a bunch of vasals , their one of my least favorite governments on earth . Hopefully the Poles will awake in a few years , and return back to socialsm instead of this garbage .

And yet when Ortega plays kissy-face with the Vatican and ultramontane wackos on the right, we call it pragmatism.

do you have an idea what pre-1989 Poland was like?

If that's "socialism" give me capitalism! call me a capitalist but I happen to like having basic essentials such as toilet paper, I also like a country having independence from Moscow. Don't get me wrong, I think the Polish government is terrible, but I think in time things will change there, without needing to resort to being under Moscow's thumb.

Trying hard to work out why you've put the sign of the GDR there as well.... unless it's some clever reference to the position that Poland was in? trapped between the USSR and the GDR? ;)

Regarding the first post, I'm amazed the man's still around, especially given earlier protests. You seen what papa Giertych wrote?

Socialism doesnt have to be pro-moscow . Socialism also doesnt have to be like it was before 1989 . These days Russia is as capitalist as one gets , so no true socialist country should be its vassal . Yeah it sucked that eastern europe was Moscow's vassale , but western europe was America's vassal . All countries besides Cuba , Venezuela , and some others are vassals of America and multi-national corporations .

BTW : Did you personally experience a shortage of toilet paper in Poland before 1989 ? I know that in the GDR and CSSR they had toilet paper . Did you really personally not have toilet paper or is it just what the capitalist regime says ? Things will only change in Poland if it takes a socialist , anti-capitalist path . If German and American businessmen will hold your economy , they'll drain everything away and it wont get better . I bet that the 20% of unemployed , who cant find jobs , can barely survive . I think that the economic situation in pre-1989 Poland was because Poland got indebted in the early 1980's by buying all that technology from the West . That was a really bad mistake ...

P.S : No , the USSR and the GDR are one of my favorite countries . In most of the olympic games they took either first or second place in medals . Ironically , the GDR always won more medals than the so called "advanced " FGR :) , even though the population of the FGR was so much better . Man , sports were so much more intense those days with the U.S.S.R and GDR , I wish I lived in those days . Oh well ...

Sorry for asking you that questions two times , I somewhat accidently wrote it two times while correcting typos in my comment .
