Hi everyone,

I am new here; I am a transsexual female who identifies with the leftist movement and I like to know what you guys think about transsexuals on this site: This site seems way cool, I dont know if its a bit radical for me, but what the hell. :-p

Do you think its discrimination if the government does not fund medical services like sex reassignment surgeries for transsexuals?

Do you think employers have the right to discriminate against transsexuals because of their gender identity?

Do you think transsexuals who are on hormones and who live full time as the opposite sex should not be allowed to legally change their sexes unless they get the sex reassignment surgeries?

I hope you don't think I am being too arrogant here, you can just ignore me and tell me to fuck off i you think I don't have a right to ask questions. You don't have to answer any of the questions, but maybe we can just talk about this issue in general?

I found most leftist people are more accepting of transsexuals, and I think thats one of the reasons I will always be left leaning, I think it also has to do with the idea of helping the oppressed or the underdogs.

Anyways, thats just my ranting. I am excited to find this place.

Believe it or not, I learned about this site at StormFront, I was browsing the forum on that site, what a bunch of nuts!

But anyways..

Hi, I don't really think anything about transsexuals. Whatever someone plans to do or be is up to them.

"Do you think its discrimination if the government does not fund medical services like sex reassignment surgeries for transsexuals?"

Are you talking about the capitalist system we live in now? If so I don't see how it would be discriminatory if they didn't fund the operation. To be discrimination they would have to fund other operations that aren't emergency operations.

"Do you think employers have the right to discriminate against transsexuals because of their gender identity?"

Definitely not. I don't think anyone here would think that would be ok.

"Do you think transsexuals who are on hormones and who live full time as the opposite sex should not be allowed to legally change their sexes unless they get the sex reassignment surgeries?"

I don't see why not.

I hope you learn a lot here. There are study groups of communism and anarchism here. Communists strive for a form of society that is about equality in all facets of living. Whether you are brown, yellow, pale, dark, gay, straight, transsexual, big, small we are all comrades.

Some of your questions, I don't really have an opinion on (not having thought about them greatly). However, I'll try and answer them all anyway.

We'll only blow up your parliament and stock exchange for you. Nothing too radical.

I'm an anarchist. Fuck the state :P. Perhaps, I don't really know. But probably.

Do you think employers have the right to discriminate against transsexuals because of their gender identity?Fuck no.

Do you think transsexuals who are on hormones and who live full time as the opposite sex should not be allowed to legally change their sexes unless they get the sex reassignment surgeries?Personally, I don't think that sex or gender should matter for anything except in a persons personal life (who they fuck and so on). As such, this question is irrelevant that in that regard. However, assuming that sex and gender is still important, I think that people should be able to identify and be addressed as any sex or gender they want. That includes legally.

I hope you don't think I am being too arrogant here, you can just ignore me and tell me to fuck off i you think I don't have a right to ask questions. You don't have to answer any of the questions, but maybe we can just talk about this issue in general? You aren't being arrogant. You have every right to ask questions and to criticise or debate us. It is what we are here for.

I found most leftist people are more accepting of transsexuals, and I think thats one of the reasons I will always be left leaning, I think it also has to do with the idea of helping the oppressed or the underdogs. You have to watch out for some of the more puritan leftists. They are anti-sex and anti-fun. BUt us anarchists are all cool :P.

Anyway, glad to have you on board. Any questions, just ask.

Hey, I don't have much direct experience with transsexuals but know a lot of people involved in LGBT rights that have a heavy focus on the T bit. Before I go on to answer your questions I'd like to state that I don't think enough is done to raise awareness of trans rights and discrimination they suffer.

Do you think its discrimination if the government does not fund medical services like sex reassignment surgeries for transsexuals? In countries where the government funds medical services: yes. Elsewhere: Not really, as they are being indiscriminate with their withholding of medical treatment. I think a lot of people wrongly view such treatments as non-essential but this is because they were not born with an incongruous sex and gender.

Do you think employers have the right to discriminate against transsexuals because of their gender identity? What do you think? Of course not!

Do you think transsexuals who are on hormones and who live full time as the opposite sex should not be allowed to legally change their sexes unless they get the sex reassignment surgeries? I would say yes to this, being that they are a different sex in all but one detail so it's silly to identify them as a certain sex because of that detail.

[b]I hope you don't think I am being too arrogant here, you can just ignore me and tell me to fuck off i you think I don't have a right to ask questions. As Apathy said you're not being arrogant or anything.
[b]You don't have to answer any of the questions, but maybe we can just talk about this issue in general? Hopefully some more discussion on the issue will be forthcoming.

I found most leftist people are more accepting of transsexuals, and I think thats one of the reasons I will always be left leaning, I think it also has to do with the idea of helping the oppressed or the underdogs. It's very hard to justify not being accepting of trans people from a leftist position.

Anyways, thats just my ranting. I am excited to find this place. Hopefully that excitement won't wear off too quick. Oh yeah you may find yourself addicted (http://www.revleft.com/index.php?showtopic=63954).

I think we should destroy the entire binary constraint currently put on sex and gender in many places.

I agree, and I enjoy what Kate Bornstein, a transexual author, has said about gender:

"I know I'm not a man...and I've come to the conclusion that I'm probably not a woman, either...The trouble is, we're living in a world that insists we be one or the other."

Society filters the way in which one perceives their body parts, and consequently gender and behaviour, so I tend to believe gender is merely a matter of one's minds and one may choose to be the specific gender and will be that by all means. Further, in a society which views sex and gender as something fluid, it seems to me that the desire to physically transform one's self would decrease, as it would no longer be necessary in order to be that gender.

I'm totally pro-trans. I've a number of friends who are transgendered and I see the horrible sufferings people are put through because they're "weird". An acquaintance commited suicide a couple of years ago because of transphobia.

I work with children, and its horrifying how cruelly and how violently gender is imposed and embraced.
