I've lately been getting into some mexican music, but unfortunatly that is the part of my culture that I am completely ignorant to. Anyone know any good music that is pretty tight? I'm talking about like those older kinda mexican folk songs.

The only Mexican artist I'm familiar with is Esquivel, who is awesome.

my former bf took me to see em last month. we had good ass seats too. he dumped me exactly one month later...anywho I recommend enanitos verdes and umm control machete. HAha banda machos. I don't know what kind of mexican music you want though. Rebelde maybe you'll like that...
My bro listens to all sorts of "folk" mexican stuff. jose y jose. los invasores de nuevo leon.

If you're looking for just "Latin" music... I would strongly suggest MPB and bossa nova. Vinicius de Moraes, Tom Jobim, Joao Gilberto, Chico Buarque, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, the classics. Amazing music.

I'm looking for music like Carlos Puebla's Hasta Siempre song. Thats like the best example I can give because I don't really know much of the style of music. A few people have given me some good artists though so thank you all! Mana is pretty tight too, I already have some of their songs.
I'll check those out also Rosenpenis.
Also, Rebelde is wack  haha. I only listen to them when my nieces bug me to put in their cd.

If I had to recommend one artist, Jorge Drexler is amazing. If you want to get into more popular Latin music, just turn on a local Spanish music station (if there's one available), but be prepared for a flood of reggaeton (ROMPE ROMPE ROMPE ROMPE ROMPE ROMPE...). I like some reggaeton, but it gets played a lot (understatement) and if you don't like it, you hate it.

Personally if its mexican I would say:
Cartel de Santa
Skool 77
Control Machete
Brujeria
La Tremenda Korte (LTK)
Julieta Venegas
El Tri
Akwid
Jae P
Café Tacuba.....
Thats the only ones I can come up with right now on top of my head.
PS. Correct me if Im wrong, but Buena Vista Social club isnt Mexican even though they are good, arent they Cuban, same with Orishas and
Ibrahim Ferrer:p
Edit.. added some more.

They are Cuban. They play Latin music, like the thread title suggests.

I don't like those... if I were to recommend MPB, names like Milton Nascimento, Lô Borges, Toninho Horta, Hermeto Pascoal, Tom Zé, Djavan and Luiz Gonzaga would come first.
:)
I'd also recommend people like Banda Black Rio, Mutantes, Secos & Molhados, and Raulzito of course.

Luiz Melodia is one my current favorites among the tropicalistas. Or not. He came afterward, I suppose. Tom Ze is great, but I wouldn't start with him. I don't understand how you can like Milton Nascimento and not Chico Buarque and Gilberto Gil. In fact, I don't understand how anyone can dislike Chico Buarque. It should probably be a crime. Lo Borges is great. Hermeto Pascoal has done some pretty trippy shit. Djavan is great. Luiz Gonzaga is a legend, but consider first whether or not you like folk music. I think he composed some great tunes. Asa Branca, of course.
Do you not like bossa nova?

Can't stand it.

Alas, in fact I do like Chico Buarque... a little.
;)
Gil and Caetano are just... boring. I think they are a pain in the... to be true. And MPB is not my "thing", if you know what I mean, even though I'm from Brazil...
