I'm interested in learning first aid for protests, since it seems like a valuable skill to have. Does anyone have any experience with administering first aid during protests?

What training should one have? What supplies should one have? Any tricks that have been learned through experience?

Are you at all first aid qualified?

But irregadrless, this is what you should bring: -

When you go to a protest, buy your self a small first aid kit, one which can fit into your pocket. You only need the most basic of kits, the expensive ones which come with all sorts of creams are a complete waste of money. They are also a tad irresponcible to use, because while you may not have a problem with the creams, etc, someone you use them on my actually be allergic, and as such you are making things worse. The most exciting thing you want in a kit are antiseptic swabs.

In terms of learning first aid, from scratch, I would advise that you get your self on a First Aid at Work course (this is a UK thing, but I'm sure there is an equivelent in most countries), these teach you basic first aid and the skills can be applied to any situation.

I would also advise that you get your self an upto date first aid manual and one which has been endorced by the red cross and St Johns ambulance, because there are all kinds of nonsense manuals available.

Yes learning the basics is good.. but if you live near a library or book store. Perhaps going insidea nd checking out some books on woung management would be good.. here are some titles:

Clinical Guide to Wound Care
Editor: Cathy Hess

-

Clinical Wound Management
Editor: Prem P. Gogia

-

Wound Care Essentials: Practice Principles
by Springhouse (Author), Sharon Baranoski (Author), Elizabeth A. Ayello (Author)

- This site could help...

I can also recomend some other books if you would like! Good luck, comrade!

PS: I have experiance giving first aide and treating wounds because I like to study medicine a lot. But I have not had the honor of helping a fallen comrade quite yet.
