Quadrophenia is probably the ultimate Mod album, simply for the cover.

I'm not denying the musical dimension, but wasn't it about bikers and scooterers or w/e the word is?
And I'd've thought you could tell by hair: Hendrix was a rocker because he had long hair; the who were mod because they had short. gah! Also, wasn't mod where skinhead drew its look from with the bomber jackets?
And were the beatles rockers?
And why were mods called mods anyway?

What was modern? They were just another sub-culture.

Mods is the best and most well-dressed subculture ever!
Mods.
Music:
Soul (particulary Northern Soul)
Modern jazz
Ska
R'n'B
Blues
Rock/Pop bands such as the Kinks, the Who, The Small Faces and The Yardbirds.
Clothing:
Clarks (desert boots are a mod classic)
Converse boots (often white and clean)
Merc & Levis pants (sta-prest)
Ben Sherman shirts
Crombies
Vehicle:
Vespas
Lambrettas
Origin:
Urban britain.
When the mainstream mods later became hippie-influenced "peacock mods", the hard-mods focused on their motto "Clean living under hard circumstances". The hard-mods were the first skinheads.
---
Rockers were often from rural areas, rode heavy motorcycles, worn leather jackets and listened to rock 'n' roll. I somewhat like them too, but if I would have been in the Second Battle of Hastings, I would have been on the mod side!
