Really, a very interesting question indeed.
The nations that would suffer least are the biggest and most diverse, who would in the long term be OK without international trade. Countries such as Somalia and Haiti, with basically no means of support, would be in much worse shape.
Now if you take things to an extreme, nature would even things out by having people die off until the natural resources of the nation could support the people (assuming there is no migration of people). This natural force is influenced enormously by the impact of technology, which in itself is influenced by size and resources. Thus the nations with the least natural resources (one climate, poor agriculture, no fuel sources) would remain at the bottom of the chain and the big diverse nations would grow and prosper.
The important difference is that they would grow and prosper, but not at the exspense of the third world, just internally.
The world would definitely not be better off. No-one can deny that one human life is worth the same no matter where, who, or what age. All of us have a duty to enrich, not impoverish, the human race.
