Okay. I've had a revelation today (while reading Great Gatsby, I might add, which to me is a satire of capitalism), and I now realize how much I dislike the concept of capitalism. I don't know how many people in the government are communist, but I think regardless of what type of government we have, there should be some in the government. I am an anarchist-communist. Let me explain:

-Capitalism/Communism is too much of a division in America.
-Communism basically was designed to take care of the people who CAN'T fend for themselves, unlike capitalism. This is why we need people in our government that are communists: to protect the people.
-However, you're asking, where does the anarchy come into play? Basically, if and when communism is to become the universal views of everyone. In otherwords, the peopel need not be protected anymore. The communist government is basically to protect its people, and if there is nothing to protect it from, it shouldn't be there.

I also realized today, while reading the forums, why I subconsciously hate school so much. Why I don't do my homework to better myself.

That basically sums it up.

Basically, I want to know- I'm still learning the full meaning of communism, etc. What am I missing?

0 in the US.

Most people can "fend" for themselves in capitalism, if you can't then there isn't much chance for survival. Communism is designed to end the inequality, exploitation, and oppression that is inherent in the capitalism system.

This is why we need people in our government that are communists: to protect the people.
This kind of paternalistic attitude is what has lead to so many failures in both bourgeois and supposedly socialist systems. The people can take care of themselves; that's what communism is based on.

As Janus said, this attitude kinda deviates away from communist thought. With some different wording though, this could sound like the Leninist idea of a vanguard party. Perhaps that is what you mean.

I would suggest reading some work by communists. Start with Marx, namely the Manifesto, and work your way around.

www.marxists.org has a massive collection of Marxist literature which might interest you.

Yeah, what I said was rushed, I didn't mean to say that communism should help the people, but ideally a government in power would, which I'm sort of against anyways.

I also know that 0 people in the US government openly confess to communism, and I assume that a good portion of them aren't anyways.

I just dislike the fact that you can explain communism to somebody, without using the word, and you'd get a positive feedback. USe the word, it's tainted. My dad was born in Poland, so he's not fond of the word, but I explained it to him.

Anyways, I'm tired, and thanks to all who posted on this website; you explained a lot to me.

Time to try finding some works on Marx and Marxism at Barnes and Noble's. :D

USe the word, it's tainted.
Well, in that case, try not to use the term (use workerism or something instead) or if you really have to, make sure you explain what communism really is.

Yep, I used that suggestion (Which was in another thread) with a friend of mine. She thought everything, the concepts of communism, was a really good idea. When I asked her what she thought about communism (without telling her that the ideas I had described before were in fact the main factors that made a communistic society) she mainly gave me negative answers. Propaganda is the main cause of this situation.
