Great news for a gift economy.

There are some plans to implement this in certain states in the US. However, there has been a problem with companies misrepresenting this technology as well as the low amount of study done about its emissions, etc. So right now, no one's really sure if it'll meet expectations and thus the lofty goal of ditching landfills may still be some distance away.

i'm still waiting for scientists to develop an artificial black hole that can be put in teh Lagrange point between the earth and the sun. we could toss our garbage in there, and the resulting dispersment of radiation could be converted into electricity, thereby eliminating garbage and the need for the worlds supply of fossil fuels and nuclear energy.

but this idea seems more plausable.

this is actually a fairly promising technology. i'd prefer steady-state recycling, but still. more studies, though - and the japanese couldn't make it work...

Actually, I think that there's a small one running in Japan. The Germans and Australians, on the other hand, weren't so lucky.

At this point, there's no process for creating a black hole of that size or stabilizing it to that kind of degree. The only black holes we can possibly create at this point are micro black holes.
