I live in 'old' hampshire (pronounced 'ampsha') in southern England - put it this way you couldn't get any more White anglo-saxon protestant. :D

It would be nice if we could create a tolerant society in this county but we cant - its a HUGE conservative area - wankers.

such things are doomed to failure.

You can try and ignore capitalism, and the state for as long as you want, but that want stop it from having an impact on your life. Not to mention movements who have taken up ideas like this have inevitably failed due to alienation etc.
The dutch squatter movement of the 70's and 80's is a good example of this, though many "sanctuaries" in the form of squatted buildings still exist, it is nowhere near to the magnitude of the late seventies, early eighties, and lacks any focused direction.

I think this is because it leads to the narrowing of the political scope of those involved, everything becomes focused on keeping the free area, whilst forgetting about everything else. Now there isnt anything wrong with creating sanctuaries, but they should be a means, not an end in and of its own.

There's already been a thread on this.

We shouldn't ally ourselves with libertarians because they are about as far right as it goes. I also think that by setting up their own little area, it'll be that much easier for the state to control them and keep an eye on them.

Spot on, NKOS. :)

I'm no fan of this idea, from what I've seen. At least, I would not want to lock myself out from the outside world at the behest of the Libertarian Party.

You mean the one full of dockers? Yeah cos dockers are known for their right-wing tendencies, that's why their union fought to make sure the guns got to the whites during the Russian Civil war.

Oh no wait, they struck because they refused to send guns that would "kill our comrades".

And by the people I know from Hamps, they seem sorta guardian readery (but I only know 2)

Full of dockers?? I've lived here all my life and know no dockers myself, although i do know of some who are. The dockers will be in Southampton and Portsmouth and there wont even be too many of them anymore. Theres 4000 people in my college and I've met three people who have left wing views, the majority voted Conservative in the last mock elections - so much for the radicalism of youth. Hampshire is basically the living space for the petty-borgeousie, although there are a number of exceptions obviously. It's funny you think 'full of dockers' we normally get 'full of farmers'. But obviously you know more about hampshire than I do.

You guys do realize the Free State Project is run by libertarians right? In case that doesn't translate well, in the US "libertarianism" generally refers to a belief that a totally free market capitalist economy will solve all of societies ills, they also tend to be conservative on foreign policy issues.

would be fun to highjack it and turn it into a communist commune though if thats the case :P

yeah, thats my main concern about it. anyway, it will probably turn into just another suburb within a few years, assuming it actually gets off the ground.

Doesn't new hampshire not have income taxes?

Yes, and no sales tax either. I think that's what attracted these pseudo-libertarians to New Hampshire.

Libertarianism in the US is an upper middle class ideology, that is completely worthless to the working class. On that site they advocate the protection of private property at all cost. <_<

I didn't mean to sound patronising, but I always think of Shampton when Hampshire's mentioned. I even said I only know 2 people from Hamps who are both sorta lefty. One of them's going out with a civil disobedient geordie :)
Yeah one comes from Aldershot and the other from Winchester.
And sorry for assuming that you'd come from an industrial area even though marxism is the theory of the industrial working class.
Anyho, I live in Somerset, that really is bad! Everyone at Bath college are right-wing southern middle class ****s (mind you I should be able to understand the southern part), and they make constant references to me being northern.
