I declare that this shall forever be the Thread for any and all Black Metal.

So who's better? Buruzm or Mayhem?

Uhhh, I have to say Mayham. But people behind those bands are dangerous fucked up idiots. Oh well, it was fun to hear they started killing each other.

Anywhoo I mostly just like Emperor. I only have the "Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk" album. I'm not really a big fan of Black Metal, I prefer Death Metal (I love Nile).

Also, around here (Serbia) most black metal bands are either neo nazis or strong nationalists (they constantly sing about Kosovo and stuff).

Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth.
I know it's all matter of taste, but if I was really into Black Metal, I would be toughly insulted now.

Cradle of Filth were never Black Metal. They always sucked ass. The only Dimmu Borgir that can be counted is the very first one and even that is semi-fucking melodic. Immortal is fucking great though. I also like very early Abigor. Has anyone ever herd of Taake?

Ulver for the fucking win. I love Immortal too. But I like all that kind of stuff. I must say that I'm really into Bal-Sagoth at the moment (Yeah they're more melodic, sue me.).

The only BM band I can really stand is Emperor... And their misspelled track/album titles are so endearing. :P

Burzum! Ahhh Mr Vikernes drew me into BM so a few years ago, when I was maybe 14. Got me into some dangerous thinking for a while, luckily I found the light... the red light that is!

I still kind of feel inspired and admire him a bit, because in my mind it's possible to seperate him from his polotics and racism and stuff. As for the rest of BM, the music is pretty fucken cool alot of the time, but... the politics and views on gay's and Jew's and stuff is often pretty fucked up.

It's not so much to do with politics. I'd say it's more plain racism rather than Nazism.

That's the one thing I don't like about black metal though... National Socialist Black Metal/NSBM. It's an actual sub-genre I think.

Almost all black metal that I've come across is infused with very reactionary and dangerous ideas - nationalism, fascism, anti-semitism, paganism, racialism.

I'd be surprised if anyone here can name a single left-wing black metal band.

Thiazi, NSBM or Nationalist Socialist Black Metal, is a "popularly" accepted genre withing the BM 'community'.

Edgar - I think your right, can't say I've ever heard of any left black metal, However, there are some bands that take Black Metals stylistic elements and focus lyrics and themes and such on things that could be considered non-political, or in the very least alot less Right wing than more "traditional" BM

Burzum (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzwXY8tw9_E) of course. He is so hilarious. Have anyone read his manifesto?

Otherwise, I would have answered Impaled Northern Moonforest (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCv9LXYGMA8).

I've read a lot of stuff by Burzum :P Are you referring to Vargsmal? I read that when I was like 14, fucked up my world view for a while, pretty fucking hilariously ridiculous book looking back though, "racial hygiene" and what not! Interesting fella though that Varg Vikernes

Yes, male homosexuality was an abomination, but female bisexuality is considered beautiful and acceptable...

Behemoth, Rotting Christ, Mayhem, Dimmu Borgir, Immortal

Cradle of Filth is okay. Really cartoony though.

And Mayhem's better. Odalism sucks, and so does Burzum.

I myself perfer Burzum. Dunkelheit is the grimmest, most foreboding song ever recorded.

Also, I don't know if they are black metal enough for some of the people here, but Old Man's Child are pretty awesome.

I prefer Burzum but i do like Mayhem as well.

Euronymous was a fool though to think that he could take on the might of Count Grishnackh!

Say are there any Venom fans here as well?

Behemoth owns. Though they aren't really black metal except for one of their singers, 3 Inches of Blood is so epicly awesome.
