I've always found it rather odd that the newspaper of kooky anti-science sect of Christianity is among the best and most progressive publications in the mainstream American press.

Usually kooky anti-science types are singing dirges to Adolf Hitler, to the Ayatollahs of Iran and of the Taliban, or to the religious far-right.

There have been a number of demonstrations and rallies in the Phillipines against the politically motivated killings of leftist and working class activists. Almost all sections of Phillipine society outside of the Arroyo government, the military, the police and the ruling class, know that the current government there has a hand in directing, arming and supporting of the far-right death squads that operate in the Phillipines. The situation in that country is similar to the death squads that operate in Colombia today or the death squads that used to operate in Argentina in the 1970s and 1980s.

Actually, despite it's name, CS Monitor is not a fundamentalist newpaper nor does it promote the views or theology of the church that originally founded the CS Monitor.
