International Women's Day is celebrated in China, most of the former U.S.S.R., and Eastern Europe to one degree or another. The point of the holiday is for the workers of the world to pay their respects to the toiling women of the world, by presenting gifts on this day to one's mother, girlfriend, or even co-worker. International Women's Day is as important as International Labor Day on May 1.

By the way, there is also an International Children's Day, celebrated on June 1 in most of the same countries.
