I signed up to do a report on Che Guevara to address why he was such an important figure in 'punk', or revolutionary history. I'm pretty new to the subject as I have only heard vague references to him in the media so bear with me.
After doing some research today I managed to come up with these points as to why he was so revolutionary.
1) He fought against various Spanish governments in order to change the unjust socioeconomic conditions in Latin America.
and
2) He had joined Castro's revolutionaries to overthrow the Batista government which eventually led up to the 26th of July Movement.
That's all I have for now. Any help or corrections with the topic would be appreciated.

Spanish governments? The Latin American independence movement had occured long before Che's day.

the 26th movement was inconsequential, because it failed. the cuban revolution is what was important because that happened afterwords, and it succeeded.
but to answer your question, its because che showed to our nations youth that one man can make a difference. His cause was romantic *in the literary sense* and that appealed to our nations youth. I don't think it was just because it allowed for kids to hold the idea that they were rebelling, but I think that it pushed fear into authority. one because it expressed "crazy" leftist politics, second because like I said it showed that if one person was discontent with how things were being done, that they can go and change the system. that is why che was such an important figurehead

Omnipotent, you should read the Wikipedia article on Che: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Che_Guevara It will give you some general history on his life and some bearing on what questions are to be asked.

Che was an important revolutionary because he did not let anything stop him from doing what he believed in. He also did not care about country borders. He was born in Argentina and fought revolutions in Guatemala, Cuba, Congo, and Bolivia.

I just got my report back and I received one of the few A's in the class. I'd like to thank everyone who's helped me with the topic, especially Red Menace who laid out the foundation for an amazing conclusion paragraph. Thanks a lot!
I'd also like to add that the Wikipedia article recommended by BreadBros was very helpful, I practically dropped all my other sources for just that one. Thanks for the recommendation.
