Not to get into a huge debate, but I think downloading anything but music is wrong. I always buy books/movies/software (except most software I use is free anyways...).

How so? Why should downloading music be more honest than downloading software from the richest man in the world bill gates? How is downloading music more honest than downloading a movie like Borat where they paid a village of Romanians very little to film them. The movie borat made a massive amount of money but the poor in that village made slave wages. I don't understand why you would think downloading movies and software isn't moral.

Very true. The same logic behind why it's good to download music can be applied to everything else. Perhaps more so. For example, I'm listening to a band from Chicago called the Groodies. Did they exploit Romanians to record their music? No. But I still downloaded it (actually that's because I can't find anywhere to buy it). So I feel bad about it, because if I don't buy their CD, there's a chance that they won't be making another. The same can't be said for Green Day (not that I listen to them - ever) or the people who made Borat. So really, downloading anything other than really obscure DIY musicians is good, because that way you aren't fueling the entertainment (or crap, as I sometimes refer to it) industry.

Wow, seriously? :D

Last I checked (under 30 seconds ago), the description for this forum was "Practical forum for community advice, activist tips, and information on how to improve your life outside of capitalism. Share your experiences of doing it yourself." Ergo, mayhap you should piss off to the "Opposing Ideologies" forum, and spew your ©apitali$t tripe there.

IMO, music was originally created to be free. I download some music because I cannot find it anywhere else. Sometimes I download a few songs before I buy an album to see if I like it. I think that downloading music can be very benifitial to the artists I like to hear. I still end up paying them, weather it be from buying the CD, or going to the show.

The movie industry was not created to be free. Call me a blind "Šapitali$t", but I really like supporting my favorite actors and movie directors buy buying their movies. If no one payed for a movie that costs $52,000,000 to make (cost for "Catch me if you can") there would no, or a much worse, movie industry. I think that older movies that are public domain are fine to download. I just got done downloading one of my favorite films, "Night of the Living Dead" myself.

And as far as software goes, you can usually find a program that works as good as the one you want from Sorceforge or another open source community.

I see your point, good sir.

The slave industry was not created to be free. Call me a blind ""Šapitali$t", but I really like supporting my favorite niggers and nigger herders by buying their services. If no one paid for a nigger that costs $52,000,000 there would be no, or a much worse, slave industry. I think that older slaves that have been liberated are fine to work with for free. I just got done fucking one of my favourite slaves myself...

What, you don't agree? People can't be bred for the sole purpose of being sold into slavery you say?

All money relations, while often differing in the exact medium, are, at their core, relations of exploitation. If anyone refuses to contribute without the sweet liquid-cool stream of green piping into their veins, then fuck them. This isn't a hard concept to grasp, so wha'ts the problem? Take shit for free, and give shit for free, and fuck anyone who charges for anything.

Oh, and I still don't quite see how your posts have anything to do with the fucking topic of this forum, which is--again--"Practical forum for community advice, activist tips, and information on how to improve your life outside of capitalism. Share your experiences of doing it yourself."
