I hope that "gangsters" can undermine the purpose of the military as an imperialist rape machine by not pledging their loyalty to it; by staying loyal to the oppressed "minorities" of urban America. FOX News says their allegiance isn't to the military? GOOD! There's not much worse than the American military. And maybe they can actually use the skills they learn in the military for good purposes, like fighting cops. Don't get me wrong; the military is a very bad thing, but as long as it exists, undermining it is always a good thing.

There are a lot of former and current gang members in the military mainly because it's the only alternative option to jail for some. What does this mean? That gangs will have access to military experience and weapons which is quite worrisome when you consider the fact that white supremacist gangs are engaged in this as well.

It's no surprise. The military has always targeted the poor, especially poor minorities. They look for those who feel they have no other option and convince them it's a way out, they'll be a part of something good, they'll pay for college, etc. It doesn't help that the US military, especially the Army and Marines, have lowered their enlistment standards drastically, ignoring drug use and criminal history, among other things. And as Janus pointed out, there has been several stories about white supremacists and neo-Nazis enlisting, and even continuing their gang/group ties while in Iraq. That's not a comforting thought.

The military itself is one enormous gang, the Mafia with weapons of mass destruction. So no surprise that mini-gangs spin off from this.

the thing is to remember though they join the gangs first and the military second. Then the american army, in its infinite wisdom, arms them and trains them how to fight.

another point is that america is bound to have such problems as the country largely revolves around guns. I imagine that the gangs have such as ideas as joining the military and sticking together because this gains them access to superior weapons and training, so when they return home from iraq or wherever they can take as much gangland as they want.

hey look for those who feel they have no other option and convince them it's a way out, they'll be a part of something good, they'll pay for college, etc.

While that is true but you have to understand that human beings (no matter how fucked up) have a certain degree of "free will" that they can utilize anytime they want.

They didn't have to join the military and could have taken a job at Wal-Mart or some manufacturing plant in order to scrape by.

Millions of young, poor people manage to survive by not opting to kill or intimidate people for a living.

But the military is right in one thing: It will lead to job opportunities.

Because if you read the statistics, one of the biggest "job growth sectors" is in the "Security Industry" or "The Repression Industry".

Police forces are growing, Dept of Homeland Security has been established and don't forget about the grand of them all: The Government-Prison Industrial Complex.

More prisons are being built and those prisons needs guards.

Yes, rapists, murderers and child molesters need to be locked up but almost most of the prisoners in the penal system are non-violent offenders; mostly drug addicts.

But hey, it's a growth industry!

Don't forget about prison labor too! It's the next best thing to slavery!
