Does a communist state need to have all their intellectuals exiled?

If all the intellectuals are exiled then it'll be the comedown of the country. Where from this stupid idea comes?

I think he probably means a Stalinist or Marxist-Leninist state, in which case the answer is most probably "Yes".

Besides the other contributions that they make to society, we would undoubtedly need them to help with the economy.

It largely depends on whether you would be allowing free speech and press or not. Intellectuals are the thorn in the side of repressive regimes...

Communism and socialism are intellectual concepts. Marx was an intellectual. Che was an intellectual. Lenin was an intellectual. Many intellectuals are leftist and I think that most people who quesation the way society should be run will come around to socialism. Only in a poorly run society are peoople who think and who question a threat. So only in a poorly-run, totalitarian state are persecuted (like Menshevik said about Cambodia). In fact, I think intellectuals are less compatible with capitalism, as it is not founded on reason.

a communist state shouldn't be run by intellectuals, it should be run by the prolaterat. lenin was an intellectual in that he read a lot, but he was a man of the prolaterat. thats why he was such a great leader for the USSR.

I agree. But the Leninist idea was that the state should be run by an intellectual vanguard group (the Bolshevik party), whoi listen to the needs of the people. Like Castro' he is a dictator, but the people still get their say in the running of the country, because their ruler is perceptive to their wishes
