So the theory is that the pendulum represents the majority of people in a nation and where they are politically. In French european history is would be seen as swinging to the left and you would have a revolution and upheaval then it would be too much and too radical and swing to the right and then the French people would have a monarchy once again and it would slowly start to swing back to the left again.

In America we see this in not so much radical terms as revolution but it most definatly exists. During the 60-70's during the hippie era and the anti-war sentiment was very high, this was a very left side swing of the political pendulum. The backlash of that was the swinging to the right with the election of Regean and George Bush Sr. Then it swayed the other way for a breif moment with Cliton then back with Bush jr. and so on.

My question is:Is the root of all this political change more rooted in a social theory that kids want to be the opposite of their parents? Also how would this theory relate in the rise of say communism in america? Could it be possible that the political pendulum would swing so far left it would lead to a revolution?

This alone brings me to another idea:How would the pendulum theory be present in communism? It's obvious people will still have different views on things I'm just curious as to how communism would allow for this "natural" thing to happen without seeming like a totaltarian state and not allow the pendulum to swing at least to some degree.

Ideas, comments? I've been reading the board for some time and this is my first post.

You refer to “opposite” as being the explanation as to why an age range may possibly make an adversary to their own kind: this of course, the humankind. However, there are many reasons as to why a generation may doubt their previous or current social issues relating to humanity.

Any adolescent mind finds it hard to sense justice in a system that allows imprecision it its own justification in terms to justice; as a result, their wanting and sensing a need for change. The change or the prevailing change only replicates the origin of the situation due to, again, flaw.

The total system cannot change in this effect, it is only when communication develops can a prevailing generalization begin to take an itinerary: the change must be made with every part of the humankind in mind, nevertheless, this is impossible to distinguish due to our, as the human races weak inability to communicate without flaw. Language, in terms, is the root to our own problems, not generation gapes, yet, that is not to say that generation gapes do not assist the situation in sequence to the effects of language modification.

You mentioned “pendulum theory.” What form of this theory are you asking? Torsion Pendulum Theory in terms to human nature?

I think this is more tit-for-tat of very real fighting sectors of the controlling class and uprisings of the working class. As the arteries of capital morph through stages of production and demand, different sectors of the controlling class will lay claim to power.

This will lead to alleviated working conditions, to absolutely oppressed working conditions. This ebb and flow is similar to the J-curve theory, in that, once the break is made from the expectational trajectory, revolution occurs. However, it is this change of controlling capital which dominates who sets the J-curve.
