why are there so many people sleeping on the streets of london when they could be squatting? do you think it's a moral thing, they don't want to break the law? or is it just that they don't know there rights etc. do you think it would be a good idea to get in contact with squats and try to reach out to people sleeping rough?

To be honest, I have no idea. In places like Brussels or Paris there are quite a lot of former homeless people who decided to go squatting. You should ask those people why they don't go squatting, maybe point them to existing squats where people could give them a hand.

They may have no idea...just tell them about it, and point them to some good places. This would surely help soemthing..

i might do that. i know a guy who can get me in contact with a bunch of squats. was in covent garden the other night, so many people sleeping rough in central london it's disgusting. i don't wanna seem intrusive tho, maybe they just want to be left alone

Some may not know of any open places while others probably don't want to get into any trouble with the law.

Yes, definitely.

Absolutely.

Perhaps, although it's not actually illegal to occupy a building (in the uk). The property becomes somewhat yours under section 6. But one group of squatters opened up a "squatters estate agents" The idea is basically that, if there are a lot of unoccupied buildings, and a lot of homeless people, you can assist them in essentially taking the buildings. And perhaps form a sort of defence network, to prevent any one place being evicted.

You can read about it here;
