Socialism

Socialism is often defined by many as a brutal dictatorship, like the Soviet Union. That was never really true socialism, so we wanted to do this to tell you a little about socialism.
So then, what exactly is socialism?
Socialism is not just an economic or political system; it’s a brand new way of life. Basically, socialism is the cooperation between all human beings. A socialist society, while probably still a while off, would be one in which things are not done by large companies and the government to make money, but rather because people need the items, regardless of cost. As an example, let’s take “orphan drugs”, or medicine for diseases so rare that noone would make money just by making these drugs and selling them. There is something inherently wrong with this, and a socialist seeks to end the practice.

How would you intend to stop this?
That’s a great question, but first, we need to present one more problem with our current system. Depending on your age, either you, one of your parents, or all three of you guys have a boss. Honestly, how does your boss make money? If it’s a small company he makes money just for owning the company. He does not have to really do any work; he leaves that to you, and can take the surplus. Why, exactly, should this happen? The real answer is that it should never happen. This is why the socialist promotes the running of companies by a council of democratically elected workers. Our belief is that if common people come into power, they will do things to help common people out, and treat workers better, and help change the motivation from greed to need, from money to humans.

What does this have to do with us?
Everything. In a capitalist system, we are told that we go to school to be prepared for the real world, but really, this is just in preparation to make money. In a socialist society, a person is not just treated as something to be used to make money, but rather is treated as a real person with hopes, dreams, values, and beliefs. We hold that the individual must be prepared mentally, spiritually, physically, emotionally, and financially during their time in public schooling. In the real world that our teachers will not stop telling us about, people have the opportunity to vote. We believe that in school, to prepare us for the decisions we are confronted with in the real world, we must be allowed to vote. And we hold the belief that we should vote for something that will change our lives, so we are asking Mr. Mitchem to establish a student government that has some governing powers.

thank you (in advance)

First of all, this should be in Events & Propaganda.

The actual content itself is good, though it could use some thorough editing which I would be happy to do for you if you so desire.

So, what we are asking of Mr. Mitchem is for a student government to be established that has some governing powers over the way that the school is run. Doesn't it only make sense that those in the school are those that run it?
I tried as hard as I could to not change any of the messages, but rather, I just fixed all the grammatical errors and cleaned it up a bit.
