Maoists - guerilla warfare

I read in the news that at least 28 members of the guerilla maoist movement were killed in a trainingcamp in the nepal highlands after a succsessfull (exuse my spelling) strike among workers, wich ended the day before yesterday, by the governments army of Nepal...
does anyone know for how long they have been active (the guerilla forces in nepal)..?

I believe since 1996. They modeled themselves after the Maoist Shining Path of Peru, and it shows.
