View Full Version : Are You A Racist Test

Here is a test which supposedly - somehow - decides what preference you have when it comes to "Race".
Take it, tell us what you got and think.
My result was:
""Your data suggest a strong automatic preference for White People compared to Black People.""
I really cant understand this
I dont consider myself racist in the slightest. I do come from a primarily white country - but I would be "racially" arab.
I really am confused  as to how it concluded this. Its quite possible that subconsciously, coming from an overwhelmingly white background, it actually makes sense. I did make some errors.
Im pissed with this
Click HERE (https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/Instructions) for the test.

Here is the description:
"Race ('Black - White' IAT). This IAT requires the ability to distinguish faces of European and African origin. It indicates that most people have an automatic preference for white over black."
If there are any "Black" members (sorry for using that word, I wouldnt usually at all" :( ) - could you tell us your score.
It would be interesting if that description goes for a "Black" persons preference for "Whites" aswell.
Or whether a person of a particular race has preference for "his/her own".

I got a slight automatic preference for white people, and I don't understand. This seems pretty unscientific to me.

"Your data suggest little to no automatic preference between White People and Black People."
When it asked who I prefer on a scale of 1 to 10 with 5 being neutral and 1 being bad (or something like that) I put down 4 for both races. I'm white by the way.

Yeah, I'm pretty much a complete racist. If I had to nit-pick with this test, I would say that it was going to turn out like that because when they first introduced picking "white/bad" and "black/good" i was confused at what I was meant to be doing, whereas by the time I knew what was going on they had switched it to "white/good" and "black/bad".

I, unfortunately, came up with slight preferance of European-americans to African-Americans.
What can I say, I grew up in a white, back woods village in Alberta. If you never see a black person, you don't become used to them as nothing out of the ordinary.

This 'racist test' is based on the reasoning that racism has something to do with the 'e' and 'i' buttons on your keyboard. In reality, a person is a racist if they support the unequal social treatment of different races - something which 'tests' like these cannot determine.
Furthermore, such 'tests' encourage the idea that racism is somehow a psychological problem which can be solved through pychological and attitudinal treatment (race-awareness programs, diversity training schemes, etc. in workplaces and schools), rather than a social problem to be confronted through social action.
They also encourage the idea that racism is matter of the 'deep sub-conscious' of ordinary men and women (who need treatment), when, actually, racism is primarily a top-down phenomenon with very clear and definate social and historical causes.

it sort of makes sense, I mean, I can tell the difference between someone who's korean and someone who's japanese. it's not because of racism in the sense of hate, but the slight differences in facial structure. I'm gonna take the test now. post results when I'm done.

My town has a white majority and I still have an aesthetic preference for darker skin tones. This also has nothing to do with what is 'ordinary' but color-concept correlation.

I don't agree with the idea behind the weight IAT, lol, not all 'fat' people have fat faces, I know this for sure, so faces can be misleading :P
I'm still takin the race test thingy.

Your data suggest a strong automatic preference for White People compared to Black People.
HAHAHHA, you know why? because they start off with Black and Bad on the left and Good and White on the right, then they mix them and put Bad with White and vice versa, they don't just switch sides, they switch them up, so your mind is focusing on the first associations and its hard to switch around.

Yeah, this is more of a reflex game than a legitimate test of someone's personal views. Whatever goes first is almost certainly what you're gonna have a preference for.

This hurt my brain. I was too busy sorting out which words are good and bad to go fast, so I got the whole "a prefference for either race could not be determined" thing.

It doesn't say you're racist, it says you have an automatic preference for one group over another- that doesn't mean you dislike one group, or have anything against them.

I don’t think this is meant to mean you are "racist" per se, I think that every human being is a little racist automatically. Human nature tells us to fear difference, and to be comforted by that which is familiar. Your cells remember.
