why? oh why? - should I feel embarrassed when i see this garbage on television? some of you probably know what I'm talking about.. "midgets" in funny costumes, some random cow boy guy, the typical loud, drunk happy mexican guy with his big sombrero!, models with large breast dancing around and a drag queen. during like a sport show, game show or like a music performance.. WHY? why do they do this?
Its embarrassing!!!! regular people automatically think thats what mexicans do or that thats like "SERIOUS MEXICAN TELEVISION"
It just makes me feel ashamed.. eh.. what the hell is the deal? why do we put our people down, ridicule our selves?

Not with drag queens, but with the idea that men dressed in women clothes are funny, or even ridiculous.

As deplorable as this may be, if we allow political incorrectness to be censored, we are giving the reactionary right a powerful tool to restrict our freedom of expression. Stick to banning speech advocating hatred and genocide of visible and invisible minorities and we'll be much better off.

yes. is not like they are being serious. It sort of makes me upset because sometimes Im watching TV with some american friends and we channels surf and they stop it on the spanish channel when this shit is going on, look over at me and laugh. Like im supposed to have an explanation for that crap. or maybe I like it and its serious stuff for me...

I think the same stuff (or similar) happens in Puerto Rican/Miami Cuban (since some of the channels originate frm Miami) TV channels.
Like having stereotype gay characters, etc
So the problem isn't restricted to Mexican tv, but most likely all of Latin American tv.
However, I've never been, luckily, to the same situation as you; since my friends are usually other Latin Americans/Carribean (or of that descent)
These shows I despise (but mostly because their stupid and of no interest to me, so I just don't watch them.) Actually there is many things I don't watch on tv, North American or otherwise ,especially if it has commercials, I hate commercials. <_< (American Idol and the show with a guy called Flavor Flav or something like that comes to mind)

I think if anyone should be embarrassed about their television programs, it should be Americans. I am so fuckin' sick of all those stupid reality TV shows.

Actually I think reality TV shows can combat racial sterotypes. The last season of Survivor was controversial about it's original division along racial lines. Even the contestents stated they were a bit weary, as they found out after the were selected. After a few days the racial divide was abandoned as four tribes became two tribes.
In the end the contestants thought it was a good result. Considering that the ethnic groups were represented in even numbers. Four Whites, four Blacks, four Asians and four Hispanics. The contestant who came second was a Mexican Male and the man who came first was and Asian male. Both thought the show was a good result. As it gave an opportunity for minorities to represent themselves without sterotypical role.
Though Survivor is a different style of reality TV show. It has challenging competition, compared to shit like Big Brother where people are encouraged to degenerate into a bunch of idiots. Thoose types of show encourage sterotypes.

A guy on last season's Survivor is from my town. When I was talking about reality TV shows, I was thinking more along the lines of stuff like Flavor of Love, the Real World, Armed and Famous, etc.

Flavor Flav is so disapointing, especially considering his history.
i have a question for you peeps, i noticed alot of peeps here like south park, but what do you think of their use of gay stereotypes? like big gay al or mr. slave?

I think their usage of gay stereotypes is actually meant to mock actual gay stereotypes in real life.

Its a pity that 99% of their audience has no idea and will rofl at the funny gay people

Oh, I'm not denying that I laugh at it, because I do. Mostly because some of the stereotypes are so incredibly stupid that they are amusing.

I don't know his name, I just know that because there was a lot of gossip around my town about it. Whichever guy was from Connecticut was him.

Are you sure that there are that many incredibly stupid people? The characters are so incredibly over the top it would take some kind of brain damaged moron to "rofl at the funny gay people".

Well i was being hyperbolic...
But the vast majority of the South Park fanbase are hetero teenage boys... who are not exactly known for mature attidudes towards homosexuality.

Fair enough, I was being pedantic.

You're right there, about heterosexual teenage boys especially (I don't know the make up of their audience, I know it includes a large number of middle aged hetero women. For some odd reason.)

I suppose my posts weren't especially relevent that they deleted. But it isn't the greatest principle to delete posts that are on a tnagent: maybe move them instead.
Soory for the confusion.

Your posts werent deleted, they were split-off (along with a raft of other offtopic posts) from this thread and trashed. I could untrash that split if you like, but i dont see the point? It was a drawn-out back and forth about grammar.
