a soviet, according to trotsky- " an embryo of a revolutionary goverment. it organises a free press, it organises street patrols to secure the safety of the citizens. it takes over the post offices, the railroads". the workers elect the leader, and sack if he/she does not do what they want. did this happen in the ussr? in my opinion, the ussr was to centralized. you can never go from extreme, authotarianism, to pure communism. it was too rigid, and thats the problem with the "communist" goverments. wouldnt it be nice to have a free, democratic, soviet country?

I agrre with you. I think after the death of Lenin and particularly after 1929 when Stalin was under complete politcal control over the soviet union, it abandoned tha path of communsim which seks freedom for all. The soviets where a real form of communism. Stalin became a totalitarianist and removed all power from the soviets and placed it into his hands. This destroyed the basics of the russian revolution.

Capitalist guest. The rules apply to guests too. If you don't want to register, you still need to keep your ass in the SvC barn.

I do not have a source for this but I believe the Cheka and secret police forces were used by the Tsar.

Although I am not denying the usage of them in Lenins time.

Ivan the Terrible created his own secret police, the "oprichnika" or something along those lines.

The Oshkrana a tsarist secret police, which Tsar Nicolas created at about the turn of the centruy (actually I have no idea when they were made so I will do a Heroditus and fictionalise;)), were much, much worse than the Cheka. If you don't believe me check out the 1905 Bloody Sunday massacre in which tsarist troops including Oshkrana officers opened fire on their fellows citizens killing innocents. But the Cheka did nothing like that, and if you say Cheka is SMERSH or Cheka is NKVD or Cheka is KGB you are wrong, they were totally different in that the Cheka was a legitimate police force than used proper methods, not torture and the like used by the afore-mentioned.
P.S. Collectivism is a good thing...
