View Full Version : U.S. Political spectrum

The true political spectrum (in my mind) travels from the far left, where we find absolute anarchy, to the far rights, where we find fascism. I have long argued that the true middle is some form of democratic socialism. Seeing as how the U.S. is not a Democratic Socialist state, i often thought that the standing of the U.S. lies somewhere between Democratic Socialism and fascism. However, recently i've been second guessing myself because of the absence of so many regulations wouldn't make the U.S. fascist, but the reactionary mindset of so many would make it fascist.

i'm really confusing myself lol  and i'd love some help with your thoughts.

Hint: the political spectrum is not a straight line.

oh very cool. that's an interesting way to look at it. pretty much answers my question. so would we say that the u.s. is in the quartile of a blend between neo liberalism and fascism? i'd say so but i'm probably wrong.

I'd say the current makeup of our government (the Republican and Democratic Parties especially) is squarely in the upper-right quadrant. Our country is well-known for its neo-liberal and consistently pro-capitalist economic policies, so we can say that on the left-right (economic) axis it is further to the right than most countries. But of course, the political persuasions of individuals in the general public are scattered all over the place.

I'd say it doesn't matter where the United States' policies lie on a map of political ideology.

What matters is that they are waging an incredibly expensive war which has been based on the extraction and abuse of the image of 9/11, they are sucking most of the 3rd world dry through neo-liberal imperialism, and that at home we are losing our freedoms left and right.

Lets go take Mickey Huff's class on the subject

Remember him saying stuff about how the US political spectrum goes from just right of center to pretty far right, and what we call the middle is actually conservative as hell, as is what we call left.

America
|----------------|---------------|
"left" "middle" right

|--------------------------------|----------------------------------------------|

anarchism middle facism

notice there are no quotes over right

Pretty biased chart I'm sure, but w/e Huff is the man. He didnt say the US was facist but he said they are trying pretty hard. Taking away rights while maintaining loyal patriotism.

Hah remember explaining all of this to my gramps

Well, I think it does matter, because the right-wing ideology that is running this country is a large part of the problems you mentioned.
