Can anyone direct me to the names of some influential left economists throughout history?

Kropotkin is always a great start, he's fun to read.

When you say "influential", do you mean in regards to "mainstream" economics or simply within the left wing movement?

If you meant the former, then none really (though Adam Smith has more in common with many leftists then he does with the current crop of economists). If you meant the latter, well Kropotkin as a communist and Proudhon as a mutualist are both anarchists and to some extent "economists".
